Additional Information

No visit to Khao Lak is complete without touring Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island. Blessed with over 400 km2 of stunning waterscape, the Bay is especially famous for its magnificent limestone islands. The best way to fully appreciate the beauty of Phang Nga Bay is through a boat tour. Discover distinctive, sheer limestone cliffs that rise abruptly from the verdant emerald waters, and uncover the secret lagoons at low tide, accessible through cave tunnels via sea canoes.

This day-long excursion sees us cruising across the bay aboard a traditional Thai long tail boat, soaking up the views of the picturesque mangrove forests and captivating karst formations. Our journey takes us to Tapu Island, or James Bond Island, the most iconic limestone rock in Phang Nga.

We continue our exploration by sea canoe, navigating around massive rocks and venturing into secret chambers, visible only at low tide. Next, we head to Panyi village to savour a delicious Thai lunch and explore this intriguing stilted village. After our Phang Nga Bay boat tour, we return to the hotel, pausing at the Golden Cave or Suwanakhuha Temple.

Just Awesome - We were looking to go to Ko Ta Poo(James Bond Island), We were 3 adults and our 10 Year old daughter. A half day was our maximum attention span for our group, :+) , this was perfect, we were very lucky to have ended up as only us on the tour(low season), the awesome guide Ran, with driver Dam gave us the full 5 star treatment, funny, interesting & genuine. We were very aware of what was included, no Canoeing or lunch, as per what it says on the 1/2 day tour. If you want this, don’t book the half day, Ran will thank us for this ;+). This trip really made our time in Thailand even greater, superb, we all can't wait to come back.

Long-tail boat trip - Nat and Bob were both great . Nat was very informative . Glad we opted for private tour as felt less rushed . Superb lunch enough food for four lol . Was supplied with water all day, never went thirsty. We were allowed to purchase a picture of me and other half on the long-tail boat which will make a great memento of our time in Thailand .

A really enjoyable day with fabulous scenery - We opted for the private tour and had a fabulous day with Moo as our guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and went to great lengths to make sure that we had the best day, tailoring it to what we wanted to do time-wise. Despite its title this is a full day’s trip - leaving about 7.30am and returning at about 4ish. Leaving early meant that we got to the James Bond island before the crowds. The bay is stunning a must see in our opinion. Travelling by long tail boat was a great way to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. Would highly recommend.

Great day out - We did the private tour which in our view was definitely worth the extra money. It meant we weren’t guided by a strict time to spend at certain places and picked up from our hotel (James Bond island being an ideal example which once you have taken your photographs there isn’t much else to do). Our guide was very informative and our highlight was the canoeing through caves and mangroves, absolutely fantastic. The scenery is like something out of a film and stunning. Overall a fantastic trip and worth the money.

Great experience - This private day tour was fascinating and the scenery was breath-taking. After a long drive to the Long boat wharf we raced away through the mangroves to come out to Phang Nga Bay, where these incredible limestone hill structures seemingly float out of the water! The canoe ride was fun, until they started talking about which countries are generous tippers, and then the inevitable hand out at the end. I was fine to tip as hard times for all after hard times. Then to the James Bond Island, which is a total tourist trap, but nonetheless was a good experience and the Tour operator, Pon, knew the shots to set up for us! Then back to the 'floating city', a Muslim village built over the water. Fascinating to see how these people survive and enjoy life. They have their own school and Mosque, electricity and very commercial pathways within the village with the usual tourist items. Finally to the 'reclining Buddha' cave and monkey mountain. Beautiful place with a few Monkeys we fed with the banana we brought from our resort! Haha... Pon, our tour guide, is a very nice guy, but lacks good enough English speaking skills so a lot of the information was lost in translation!

James Bond, a walk through the village and a temple - not quite as described online - We booked the group tour but ended up being the only ones on the tour. Our guide was great, happy to take photos of us and talk us through the island, floating village and temple. However the tour was just that, a visit to James Bond Island, a walk through the floating villa and the temple. The description on Trip Advisor, duration of tour and what to expect did not match our tour. The half day tour does not include canoeing or lunch which was disappointing as these were the activities we were looking forward to. We arrived at the Temple around lunch time and there were no monkeys in sight, our tour guide let us know you need to come early to see them, so we missed out on monkeys too. If we knew half the activities were not included we would have booked with another tour.

Go Early - We were collected from our hotel early & we were lucky enough to have Aud as our guide who was great. Going early meant that we were ahead of the masses & gave us some great photo opportunities which would have been a struggle to get even just a little later as the crowds were arriving not far behind us. The longtail boat was nice & Aud was informative & took us back through the Muslim village. Overall I’d give this a 6/10

Canoeing was great, the rest less than average - Our rep for the day, Mr Ran, was excellent. Very cheerful, informative and always willing to take a photography of us. The longtail boat was enjoyable and the canoeing was the highlight of the day. The guy who did all the paddling, pointed out various creatures on the rocks and took photos of us. James Bond island was a bit of a waste of time. Everybody flocks to take a photo of the tall self standing rock in the sea and that’s about it. Lunch was very nice on Koh Panyi, which is an interesting place. The last point of call was the cave temple which was a disappointment. Having visited many temples, this had nothing going for it apart from loads of monkeys outside. Overall, a fairly average trip.
