Highlights
  • Golden Temple - The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is one of the most revered spiritual sites in India. Located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, it attracts millions of visitors each year. The temple is renowned for its stunning golden architecture, serene ambiance, and the sense of peace it offers to all who visit. No visit to the Golden Temple is complete without experiencing the Langar Hall. The term ‘Langar’ refers to the community kitchen where free meals are served to everyone regardless of caste, creed, or economic status. The tradition of Langar was initiated by Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, promoting equality and selfless service. This practice continues today and serves as an epitome of community service and humility. Visitors to the Golden Temple are encouraged to participate in voluntary service, or ‘seva’, at the Langar Hall. Whether it is cleaning vegetables, serving food, or washing dishes, every small task contributes to the smooth operation of the Langar. - Jallianwala Bagh - Discover the tragic history of Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, the site of a brutal massacre on April 13, 1919, during India’s struggle for independence. Learn about the events leading up to this dark day, the impact it had on the Indian subcontinent, and how the memorial stands today as a place of reflection and remembrance. Explore the preserved historical landmarks including the museum, bullet-marked walls, and the Martyrs’ Well, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts worldwide. Jallianwala Bagh is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and resilience in the face of oppression. - The Partition Museum - The Partition Museum in Amritsar offers a profound exploration of the 1947 Partition of India. Located in the Town Hall, the museum features exhibits and artifacts such as photographs, personal letters, and multimedia installations that depict the human stories of this significant historical event. Key highlights include the Gallery of Refugees, oral history sections with first-hand survivor accounts, and an art section depicting the trauma and resilience of the period. A visit to the Partition Museum provides an essential educational experience, commemorating the past while fostering understanding and reconciliation for future generations. - Wagah Border - Experience the mesmerizing Beating of the Retreat ceremony at the Wagah Border in Amritsar, a daily showcase of patriotism, discipline, and coordination by the border security forces of India and Pakistan. Established in 1959, this event marks the closure of the border gate and the lowering of national flags, symbolizing mutual respect and strength between the two nations.

The Golden Temple. - Wow what a beautiful place to visit. We queued to go in for about an hour and a half, but this was so worth the wait. It was so fantastic inside & a priviledge to hear the morning prayers. The gardens are kept so lovely, a must visit place.

Fantastic and memorable experience in Amritsar - We did the Golden temple and Attari-Wagah border tour with Chander. He was professional, punctual , knowledgeable and courteous. My parents who are 70 + and my daughter who is 15 equally enjoyed the tour. We did the village tour with Paramjit who was on par with Chander with his professional etiquette and knowledge The local family were great hosts and kept us well fed. Their haveli style house had antique furniture and they had a lot of entertaining stories to tell us.The activities of the village tour included kite flying, turban tying, visit to the basmati paddy fields and guava/pear farm on a horse drawn cart.. All in all this is 100 times better than visiting Sadda Pind !

Outstanding tour - We did both the Amritsar Golden Temple and walking tour of Amritsar as well as the horse drawn carriage tour with Chander and his crew. Both were excellent. The carriage tour took us behind the scenes to so many interesting places we would otherwise not have experienced. The guide's love of the country and culture and exceptional knowledge of history helped us love and appreciate India and its people even more. We learned so much more about the social and political past of this colorful nation. These days with Chander and Tanga tours enriched our time and understanding of the Amritsar area in so many ways. We were able to truly see the real India in everyday life with the many stops and visits, it made our trip so much more than a sightseeing adventure. Zoe and Curt Dams Nanaimo BC Canada
