Highlights
  • Tomar - Skip the hassle of public transport or shared tours and enjoy the comfort and safety of a private guide who will pick you up from your hotel in a comfortable vehicle with the Clean & Safe Seal guarantee. This tour is perfect for those seeking a more authentic and unique experience away from traditional tours. The journey from Lisbon to Tomar takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes (140km).

  • Convento de Cristo - Explore the Castle of Tomar and the Convent of Christ, once the headquarters of the Order of the Templars and later the Order of Christ. This site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The Military Order of the Temple was established in Jerusalem around 1118 to protect holy sites in Palestine. After assisting Dom Afonso Henriques in the reconquest, the founder of Portugal granted the lands of Tomar to the Knights Templar in 1160. D. Gualdim Pais, the first Portuguese Grand Master and Knight of the Order of the Templars, commissioned the construction of the Castle. The Convent later became the headquarters of the Military Order of the Temple in Portugal.

  • Batalha Monastery - The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, commonly known as the Monastery of Batalha, was built by King D. João I in gratitude to Our Lady for his victory over the Castilian army on August 14, 1385. The battle took place in Aljubarrota, south of Batalha, and was won by the Portuguese king, who promptly fulfilled his promise. The Monastery of Batalha stands as a symbol of Portugal’s independence and marks the beginning of the second royal dynasty, the Avis Dynasty. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, it is one of the most impressive Gothic monuments in the Iberian Peninsula.

  • Monastery of Alcobaca - Visit the Monastery of Alcobaça, one of Portugal’s most significant medieval monuments. Construction began in 1178 by Cistercian monks, and it is the first Gothic building in Portugal. Consecrated in 1252, the church is the tallest and longest in the country. It is one of the best-preserved Cistercian monasteries, featuring the original monastic dependencies and one of the most monumental churches of the Order. Its grandeur earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation and a place among the Seven Wonders of Portugal.

Beautiful Cathedrals - Pedro was a wonderful tour guide. The places we visited were strikingly beautiful and are not to be missed. Would have preferred to have learned more about the life and impact of the templars.

Very nice guide but not very knowledgeable - Our tour guide, Pedro, was a lovely person and quite flexible. However, he seemed a bit disorganized and unaware of the sites we were touring. We started our tour at Tomar. It turned out there was a festival that day that occurs once every four years. At first, that seemed like a lucky coincidence. However, once we could not get off of the highway due to intense traffic, we quickly realized that this was not an ideal situation. We ended up losing almost 2 hours of our tour because of the crowds, which could not be added on to the end because Pedro had another tour at 5:30 that evening. As I said, Pedro tried his best to make it work, but even when we arrived at the various sites that we were touring, he did not provide much information and often did not know the answers to our questions. Overall, we did not get much out of the experience.
