Amazing, Real Experience - The turtle tour was amazing - it felt like two in one as we got to sector 5, which involved a walk through the jungle at night. And we got rained on, which was perfect for turtles to come out. We were expecting to see turtles lay eggs and then go back to the ocean. And that's what we saw, but experiencing it under the stars with the ocean on the side was something. It is difficult not to be awed by how mother nature works when you see it right in front of you. I definitely recommend it. Our guide, Carlos, was amazing - he answered all our questions and showed us other sites. In fact, the entire experience with Tuanis was good. We got all the details, how it works, what to wear, when to come and where - what to expect. Be prepared for rain and you will be good...

We had an amazing time... - We had an amazing time with Carlos! He told us all about the turtles, history of the area, and was very knowledgeable about turtle safety. We saw 3 huge turtles laying their eggs and saw one journey back to the ocean. It was so amazing! Thank you Carlos for an amazing time! We only wish we could have taken another tour with Carlos!

Unique experience with the best guide - Not only did he take us to see the spawning, the explanations, his enthusiasm, the effort to ensure that you have the best experience make it an unparalleled activity. On the way there and back he showed us a lot of animals. Even on a night of heavy rain, it was one of the best activities we did on the trip thanks to the guide.

A Lifetime Dream Comes True - Carlos was very knowledgeable regarding the sea turtles nesting in Tortuguero and around Costa Rica. He explained in both english and in spanish the history of the National Park and the influence of Dr Archie Carr convincing the people of Tortuguero and the congress of Costa Rica that saving the turtles was both the right thing to do and an economic boon to the small community. Carlos guided us from the water taxi to the air strip to the ocean. He took the hand of those less firm on their feet to keep them safe. On the beach he led us by red light to the spotter and we walked to the spot a turtle was nesting. We saw the tracks leading from the ocean and the turtle draped across the deep vase shaped nest as she dropped 60-100 eggs. She finished and the began to cover the nest first with the back fins and then moving off the nest flipping sand behind her with her front fins to cover and camouflage the nest. In the camouflaging process she also created a ‘fake’ nest to confuse predators. With that done she rested and caught her breath and then began her return to the ocean. Guided by the beating of the waves on the shore and by the lighter horizon of the ocean she makes her way back. She lifts with her front fin and pushes forward with her rear fins. She move 9-12 inches every lift. The tracks she leaves in the sand look like a tank came through. She rests often as she is exhausted by the whole process. A creature who is graceful and beautiful in the ocean is lumbering and yet more beautiful in her determination on land. The waves begin to reach her face and washes away the sand. As she is covered more and more by the waves our group becomes excited and quietly cheers her on and we cheer of our own delight as she swims off into the night. The memories are one’s I have waited a lifetime for and are worth the wait. Carlos, Luis and Jorge were all wonderful in making this night a wish and a dream come true. My companions tonight made it a shared one. I will go on this tour again and again during my 7 day stay in Tortuguero.

Watch the Turtles Lay Their Eggs! - I have been to Tortuguero a number of times, but had never seen the turtles nesting, which is what the place is famous for, after all. Our guide Carlos was great... professional and knowledgeable. We were staying at a good hotel that also offers the tours, but Carlos' tour was about a third of the price for the same experience. They picked us up at the hotel with their boat and made the event a memorable one. I would definitely recommend Tuanis Tours and Carlos.

ABOVE AND BEYOND - Both the turtle tour and the canoe tour were led by Carlos who went beyond the extra mile to help us. His knowledge and passion for nature was exceeded only by his watchful caring for our group. In preparing for our trip, my questions were answered thoroughly. But the incredible service came when the SINAC website would not accept my signin to buy tickets for the next day's canoe tour. Tuanis worked around SINAC's issue to assure our early tour happened

Turtles laying eggs before our eyes - Very good tour! We saw the turtles laying eggs from Très Prêt. Several turtles were laying eggs nearby. We stayed to see the recovery, the camouflage and the return to the water. Well organized and Carlos explained well to us.
