Highlights
  • Trieste - Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Trieste - hotel, cruise terminal, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
  • Postojna Cave - Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant
  • the proteus (olm)
  • up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
  • Predjama Castle - The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

Great trip to Slovenia - highly recommend it - A really good trip. Ernest, our guide, and Eddie our driver were great. Ernest gave some interesting and relevant facts about Slovenia, the cave and castle and Trieste. The cave was cold so do remember to bring a jumper. The train and cave were fascinating and beautiful. The castle was something out of either a fairy tale or a Bond movie - take your pick!

Wonderful Experience - Ernie was entertaining and gave us some history of the region. Our group enjoyed the experience! The cave is a work of art by nature and the castle is a work of art by human. The castle has a lot of uneven stairs and can give you some cardio, BUT very well worth the effort! The views of the surrounding area are gorgeous and the drive to the castle through the countryside gives you a taste of rural Slovenia. The tour was just a group from our cruise ship and consisted of 50 people on our bus. There is a bit of discrepancy on Viator about it being a small group (we did NOT see what the issue was for some people). Our group as a whole kept up and we were on time for everything. The bus was comfortable. Ernie also gave recommendations for local food and drink (which we tried and enjoyed)

Great attractions and guide - These are "must see" sights. The formations in Postojna are amazing as is the castle. It's well worth the effort to climb all the way up to the cave castle. This was our second tour with Ernest, an excellent and fun tour guide. However the company should provide him with a bluetooth headset and microphone for the van to make it safer and more pleasant for guests and guide alike.

Great trip to fascinating locations - Great trip to two fascinating locations. The cave was more than I ever expected - unimaginably grand. Was not originally expecting much from the cave castle, but it turned out to be very, very interesting and am glad it was part of the tour. Drive through Slovenia just beautiful. Guides were great and very informative, as well as organized. Bus extremely comfortable.

Cave and Castle Rocks! - The views were amazing! And, yes, we took so many photos! Our neighbor recommended this site and we are happy we got to check it out in Slovenia. Our guide mostly just got us to the places, and we explored on our own.

Both locations should be on your bucket list! - These are two ‘must see’ locations in Slovenia. Predjama Castle is like something out of a fairytale, yet it’s very real and historically very interesting. The audio guide was excellent. We wanted to visit the Postojna Caves because my partner had visited it when he was 11 (that was quite a long time ago!). The return visit did not disappoint - quite the opposite! It’s a wonderful experience, the cave system is so extensive, and the structures are beautiful. Highly recommend both.

Great day out to Slovenia from Trieste port - Caverns were fantastic. Well worth the trip. Easily as nice as ones in States like Carlsbad or Mammoth.

Beautiful, fascinating cave and castle exploration - Beautiful cave and castle. Cave was fantastic. Train ride in cave and then 1 hour walk before return train ride back to entrance. Difficult to hear guide in cave, but views were spectacular. Wear warm clothing as 50 degrees F underground. Then 20 minute bus to castle where we had audio tour at our own pace, not private tour. Lots of steps in castle but well worth it. Our host, Ernie was interesting and informative. We were on the tour with 100 people in cave with buses of 50. We signed up for private tour with max 15 people. Not sure how about this mix-up but others were also affected.
