A Serene Start with Giant Turtles

The morning sun kissed the horizon as I embarked on a journey that promised both tranquility and exhilaration. Trou-aux-Biches, a gem on the northwest coast of Mauritius, was my starting point for a day filled with marine wonders and beachside bliss. As a marine biologist, the prospect of snorkeling with giant turtles was irresistible. The anticipation of encountering these majestic creatures in their natural habitat was palpable.

Boarding the boat, I felt a familiar thrill, the kind that only the ocean can evoke. The gentle sway of the waves accompanied us as we ventured into the turquoise waters. The snorkeling gear was simple—masks and tubes, no fins allowed, to ensure minimal disturbance to the marine life. La Cuvette Public Beach was a hidden gem, a small cove surrounded by rocky boulders. Its secluded nature made it feel like a secret waiting to be discovered. I took a moment to simply sit and absorb the beauty around me, the ocean stretching endlessly before my eyes.

A Day to Remember

Our final beach stop was Pereybere, a popular spot among locals. The water here was slightly deeper, offering a different kind of swim. I relished the opportunity to dive into the cool depths, feeling the refreshing embrace of the ocean. The beach was lively, with food stalls lining the shore, tempting me with their aromatic offerings.

Throughout the day, our driver-guide was a delightful companion, sharing stories and insights about the island. A spontaneous detour led us to a local temple and church, adding a cultural touch to our beach-hopping adventure. It was these unexpected moments that enriched the experience, making it more than just a day at the beach.

As the sun began to set, the boat returned us to our hotel beach, the perfect end to a perfect day.
