Highlights
  • Ulaanbaatar - Meeting

  • Genghis Khan Statue Complex - The gigantic steel equine statue mounted by Genghis Khan himself is the largest statue of an equestrian in the world. This 40 m tall statue is located on a hillside on the bank of the Tuul River in an area called Tsonjin Boldog and connected to capital Ulaanbaatar by 54 km paved road. Tsonjin Boldog was chosen according to the legend that Genghis Khan found a whip in this area. In Mongolia, people believe that man finding a whip is a sign of fortune, good destiny, and occasion. The statue faces east, the direction of Genghis Khan’s birthplace, and the sunrise. If you stretch your eyes to the east, you will see a small statue of his mother greeting him.

  • Gorkhi-Terelj National Park - Gorkhi terelj national park and we are going to hike the turtle rock

  • Gorkhi Terelj National Park - Turtle Rock, ”Melkhii Khad”, is a surprising granitic formation, 24 metres (79 feet) high, whose form reminds of a turtle. Its old name was Mungut Khad. Located at the foothills of a mountain covered of pines, this rocky formation is incontestably a photo opportunity while you’re on the road for Terelj. There, it’s possible to rent horses, and during the summer, you can also find souvenirs’ sellers. It’s a good starting point for a small walk (about one hour) that will lead you until the centre of meditation of Aryaval or in the most remote places of the park. If you move a few kilometres forward on the main road that leads to Terelj Village, you will also be able to see on your right the formation called ”the old man reading”.

  • Ariyabal Meditation Temple - t’s located within Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, about 10 kilometres (6,21 miles) from the entrance. From the turtle rock, you can make a pleasant hike (about 45 minutes). Located on the hillside of a mountain covered with larches and granite rock, Aryaval meditation centre will delight the travellers. To reach the temple, you will have to pass a small wooden bridge on which a sign tells: ”the bridge that leads beyond wisdom”. The main temple is dedicated to Kalachakra philosophy, ”wheel of time”. The temple contains a thangka representing the myth of the Shambhala (a thangka is a painting on cotton or silk; Shambhala is, according to Buddhist philosophy, a fabulous place hidden somewhere in Asia), a Kalachakra mandala, and other objects bound to this belief. On the ground floor of this building, you can admire a ”gallery of Buddhist philosophy”, with 220 original paintings of the artist Bayantsagaan representing the different belief and Buddhist philosophy.

Well organized and helpful. Delicious food - Very fun and we'll organized. We were the first group at the statue museum so we could actually hear our guide. The statue was very packed with people not cycling trough in a timely manner. The activities outside were included!!!!!! Archery, camels and falcons. The visit to local nomads gur was cool, the harded yogurt (more like salty cheese) was good. Followed by a big delicious lunch (eat the camel!) and even a beer, taste of vodka and the milk liquor. The turtle rock hike was medium difficulty after eating a very big meaty lunch. Temple was interesting and our guide finished the day with the social monument and overlook of the city. The apprentice even helped me contact a local tailor! Was a good trip.

Amazing one day experience with great value - Very nice Tour to see multiple interesting places around Ulaanbaatar. We were picked up from our hotel, visited Genghis Statue Complex, where we were also guided through the Museum and got to know important facts about Mongolia. Then we had the opportunity to ride camels and hold an eagle, which was wonderful. Then we had delicious lunch in a jurt, where we tried all different kinds of meats including camel. Then we continued to Terelj National Park and Aryabal Temple, where we also had some time to explore around. Our guide was very kind, even offered us an ice cream. As a bonus we were taken to Zaisar monument and also Kashmere store. Some group members wanted to see the main Square, which we have already visited the previous day, so our guide Torch ordered a taxi for us to our hotel. Very eventful Tour that I highly recommend to anyone visiting and not having a car. Great value for the price and good organization!

Excellent day trip to Chinggis Khaan statue in Ulan Bator - I booked a day trip to Chinggis Khaan statue and Aryabal temple via TripAdvisor online. The trip was very good - especially our driver cum guide Dorz was excellent, who provided us a good perspective of Mongolian history during the tour. The trip included photo-op with Eagle, Camel etc. plus Camel riding and Horse riding and those were managed very well. Lunch was also included that was a traditional Mongolian lunch inside a Ger - and that will stay in my memory. I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Ulan Bator.

Fun - We had a great time with our tour. We had so much fun and the whole day is enough to see and learn lots of history. From the statue , to riding a camel, getting to know the eagle and vulture. Our guide had answered most of the questions being asked regarding culture and history of Mongolia.
