Adventure to Khustai National Park: Meet the Wild Takhi Horses

Khustain Nuruu National Park - Embark on an exhilarating 4x4 journey to Khustai National Park, home to some of the last wild horses on Earth! Here, you’ll encounter the takhi, or Przewalski’s horse, a unique species that was once nearly extinct but has been successfully reintroduced through a special breeding program.

Park Visit: Upon arrival, you’ll meet with park staff who will share insights about the takhi reintroduction project and the efforts to protect these remarkable horses. Keep an eye out for the stocky, coffee-colored takhi, which have never been domesticated!

Stay in a Ger: Tonight, you’ll experience a traditional Mongolian ger—a round, felt-covered tent with basic furnishings. This cozy accommodation allows you to connect with the local culture. We will continue to stay in gers until day 12 of our trip.

Journey to Kharkhorin and the Ancient Capital of Karakorum

Kharkhorin - Get ready for an exciting drive to Kharkhorin, followed by a visit to Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia. This is where Genghis Khan established his headquarters in the early 13th century.

Erdeni Dzu Monastery: Explore the remains of this historic monastery, one of the first centers of Buddhism in Mongolia. You’ll have the chance to meet the head monk, who will share stories about the challenges faced during the communist purges that impacted much of the country’s Buddhist heritage.

Karakorum Museum: Next, visit the Karakorum Museum, where you can see a fascinating collection of artifacts from the 13th and 14th centuries. The museum also features a scale model of the ancient capital, offering a glimpse into its past.
