Delicious fun and very interesting :) - We had a fabulous day with this class. The location is beautiful at an outside kitchen at the family restaurant, but it’s covered and with fans! We booked for a time that was actually over a public holiday so the usual markets were closed but we were kindly taken to a smaller market that was just as fascinating so we could still see all the interesting veg unique to Sri Lanka! Sam was very knowledgeable about them all and then we were able to pick some veg that we recognised so we can recreate at home and some we did not so we could try something new. The cooking class itself was very informative and enjoyable - learning spice mixes (we were even able to take some home!), how to make coconut milk and lots of delicious curries which we ate at the end. This course really made our last day of holiday special, thank you to everyone that made it so great!

Amazing day - The whole experience was wonderful. The market tour to gather the ingredients was a great opportunity to learn about local produce and how to choose and use them. Our group was then able to choose the 5 ingredients we were going to use in our curries. The cooking course went through all stages of the food preparation, techniques, spice choices to create, combine and enhance flavours. You get to assist with the food preparation and watch the process of going from raw ingredients to the most flavoursome Sri Lankan dishes. The whole family are so welcoming and friendly which makes the experience even more personal and special. The food is delicious and I loved we got to all sit and enjoy the lunch together. I cannot recommend more highly, this was such a wonderful day be sure to book you won’t be disappointed.

Exactly what I wanted from a Sri Lankan cooking class - Cook with Wasantha was exactly the type of cooking class I wanted to do in Sri Lanka. We began with a visit to a local fruit and vegetable market with Wasantha's husband, Sam, who told us about some of the local ingredients, both native and introduced, that are typically used in traditional Sri Lankan cooking, And how they are also used in Ayurvedic medicine. He then had each of the three of us pick 1 vegetable to bring back to be cooked at our class. Back at Wasantha's home/restaurant she took us through the various spices used in her curries and told.us she knows more than 200 individual dishes! She explained and instructed us in preparing the vegetables we had selected, and advised which spices we would be using with them. We then made 4 individual dished. And even though all of them had the same base ingredients, through different cooking methods and the addition of a pinch of this and a dash of that we made four very different but completely delicious dishes. Wasantha has had to build her business up from scratch several times now, from when the first tourists started coming to Uluwatuna in the 80s, then again when the 2004 tsunami destroyed her restaurant, and again during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns which devastated the Sri Lankan tourist industry. Now her restaurant is full every day of the high season and for good reason: Wasantha's food is fresh, authentic, and above all else delicious. It was a privilege to attend her class and learn from a wonderful chef.

Best local cooking class available! - Such an amazing day, I can't recommend this highly enough! We met at the restaurant then were taken to the market to select the vegetables for our dishes then onto the fish market to pick up some tuna. We returned to Wasantha where she made the magic happen! We learned so many great techniques and tips throughout the day. Every dish we made was so delicious! I couldn't eat dinner that night after such a big lunch. Definitely select this course, not one of the copy cat courses around! You won't be disappointed!

Amazing cookery tips and excellent food! - Such a great cookery class! We learned so much … many top tips and little insights handed down through the generations that you would never get from a cookery book. This is how to cook authentically but using a mix of ingredients so you can try (!) to recreate many of the dishes at home. Come hungry … there are lots of opportunities to try the many dishes as they are being cooked and the resulting lunch is huge! All in all excellent value for money!

Lovely People | Delicious Food | Attractive Village - This was a great experience. Watching Wasantha cook and learning her tricks - as well as helping her to prepare the ingredients was a highlight. And, we were really impressed to receive her hand-written recipes. Sam (husband) and the family were delightful. We enjoyed our trip to the market in Galle with Sam's running commentary. Very much recommend this experience - the food was really, really delicious and just lovely people!
