Additional Information
Blue River provides a magical expedition through the abundant jungles of Costa Rica! Explore a magnificent waterfall, wander in a Botanical Garden enveloped by wilderness, and immerse yourself in a dreamlike experience in the Butterflies’ Garden. Afterwards, unwind with a soothing dip in a thermal pool, complemented with nurturing volcanic mud for your skin.
- RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Wear comfortable clothing, walking shoes, and swimsuit. Take a change of clothes, camera, biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent, and extra money for souvenirs.
- NOTES:
- French-speaking guide available only on Saturday during high season, from November 1st to April 30th. Tour not recommended for adults over 60 years of age.
- Transportation included only from/to centrally located Hotels in the Arenal area. If you’re staying in a different area, an extra fee may apply
- It is of the utmost importance that you provide your complete Hotel/Cruise details at the time of booking. Without this information, we will not be able to confirm your reservation. If this is the case, please contact us immediately to reconfirm your reservation
- Tour is conducted on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday’s in English language. French language tour capabilities are available on Saturdays during high season November 1st to April 30th. Other languages could be available upon request based on the size of the tour and additional fees may apply.

Just book it! - I normally don’t write reviews, but after this experience I feel compelled to. We had Alejandro Jimenez Alvarez as our tour guide and driver. When booking with Nexus, I’d highly recommend requesting Alejandro by name. I’ve been on many excursions while vacationing abroad and I’ve never had a more engaging, knowledgeable, and most importantly entertaining guide. As amazing as the activities were, Alejandro added value at every opportunity possible. He made additional stops for us, went out of his way to explain back stories of locations, told famous stories regarding the names of the volcanoes, plant, insect, flower, and animal knowledge (ask to hear his holler monkey call) he literally was talking back n forth with the holler monkeys in the rain forest. Today was our 3rd full day in Costa Rica and he made it special. Our two daughters were entertained (10 & 7) and learned so much on this trip. This was easily our favorite day of the trip. For anyone worried about a 2 hour one way car ride, if you are lucky enough to land Alejandro as a guide, it will be the most entertaining 4 hours you ever spend in a car. As for the excursion experience itself, everything was amazing and as explained during the sales process. Thank you Alejandro and Nexus for making this a vacation we will never forget!!!

Fabulous - Loved it had so much fun.. Fernando the tour guy is great and loves what he does.. everyone must go. The hike and water was beautiful.. it was raining but we definitely got the costa rica experience

Blue River Rainforest Tour - The botanical gardens had gorgeous exotic flowers. Emmanuel was an absolutely fantastic tour guide; so knowledgeable, so personable, and so enjoyable. The volcanic mud felt amazing on a slight sunburn and the hot springs felt incredible. Only thing I will say is we were under the impression (from the representative we spoke with at our resort) that we would be closer to Rincon de la Vieja and more involved with the volcano. A day with Emmanuel will not disappoint though!

Great Tour Expedition - The tour guide was very welcoming and friendly. He educated us plenty and showed us many animal species. He answered all of our questions. He even caught two frogs and told us many knowledges. He was very kind and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend!! I had so much fun and I would definitely do it again. Everything was such a beauty. It’s a full day trip, but it’s absolutely worth it. We took plenty of photos and even managed to see a sloth!

Amazing tour - The tour was a very exciting experience, the guide and driver Alejandro Jimenez was a special, attentive, knowledgeable person who made of this trip the best part. He was explaining about animals, plants, little towns and other interesting facts that we encounter on our way. Blue River resort was very clean, they provided us with a very good lunch. We highly recommend this tour and Alejandro as your guide you will feel safe and taken care of during the whole trip Amazing experience

Best day ever! - Our group got a good taste of Costa Rica's Pura vida with the Nexus tours. The driver and tour guide were exemplary. A wonderful time was had by all.

Great time so worth it! - Emanuel was fantastic.... the bus driver so calm and knew where every bump was taking his time to get us there safely...... great excusion.... totally recommend!! And thanks for making the time to stop for mangoes!!! Really appreciate it!

Fun waterfall - Armando was a great guide informative and fun.
Wilberth our driver was also outstanding, he noticed a sloth in the trees and stopped to allow us to look and take photos !!!
