Highlights
  • Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin - Armenian Apostolic Church (Armenian Orthodox Church) - Prepare to explore: Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the spiritual heart of Armenia. Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD. The cathedral was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
  • Saint Hripsime Church - Built by the order of Catholicos Komitas in 618, Hripsime Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The legend of Hripsime dates back to the early days of Christianity. Hripsime fled to Armenia to escape persecution by Roman Emperor Diocletian. A devout follower of Christ, Hripsime refused to marry the pagan Armenian King Trdat III and chose martyrdom. A small chapel was initially erected at the site of her martyrdom, and in the 7th century, a magnificent church was built there by Catholicos Komitas.
  • Zvartnots Temple - Visit the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral, a medieval Armenian cathedral from the seventh century, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Charent’s Arch - The Arch of Charents offers a stunning view of Mount Ararat.
  • The Monastery of Geghard - Geghard is a medieval monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to tradition, it was founded by Saint Gregory in the 4th century at the site of a sacred spring. The current structures, partially carved into the rock, date from the 13th century. The monastery’s unique character is highlighted by its austere architecture and the breathtaking natural scenery of the surrounding canyon.
  • Garni Temple - Garni Temple is the only surviving pagan temple in the Caucasus region. Dating back to the second half of the 1st century, it was dedicated to the Sun God. After Armenia’s Christianization, the temple served as a royal residence.
