- Dhamekh Stupa, Sarnath - Sarnath is situated at a distance of 10 km from Varanasi easily accessible by any conveyance. This is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in the world, Sarnath famous as the place where Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon. Sarnath was a renowned school of learning from the 6th century BC to the 12th century AD. Visit the ruins, the stupa, the Buddhist temple & the museum. At the museum is the Ashok Pillar with its four guardian lions, used as independent India’s national emblem. The Mulagandhakuti Vihara Buddhist temple at Sarnath is one of the temples built by the Sri Lankan Mahabodhi Society in 1931. It is the place where Lord Buddha had spent his first rainy season. The walls of this temple have beautiful frescoes depicting the life of the Buddha. It is the most holy place for the people of Buddhist religion as Lord Buddha had attained his enlightenment here beneath the tree. Dhamekh Stupa is the place where Lord Buddha had given his first conversation of Dharma.

Sarnath tour - My recent tour of Sarnath with our guide Sham was exceptional. Sham's deep knowledge of the area's history and culture made the experience incredibly enriching. He provided detailed insights into the significance of each site, ensuring we had ample time to see all the important sights like the Dhamek Stupa and the Ashokan Pillar, and allowing us plenty of time for pictures without feeling rushed.
Sham's ability to answer all our questions thoroughly and his engaging storytelling skills truly set him apart. He brought the history of Sarnath to life with fascinating anecdotes and legends. Varanasi Buddha Experience - My guide was great. He was conversational rather than dry and lecturing. He was mindful of the sun and spoke while we were in the shade, letting me wander afterwards. Would highly recommend!!

Best way to experience Sarnath - I would highly recommend this walking tour. Very friendly tourguide who explained everything very detailed, very easy to unterstand and in an interesting manner. We were allowed to ask as many questions as we wanted. Sarnath is definitely worth a visit.
