Highlights
  • Kashi Vishwanath Temple - The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, also known as the Golden Temple, is one of Varanasi’s most renowned temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was built in 1780 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, the Maratha queen of Indore.
  • Manikarnika Ghat - Manikarnika Ghat is the primary cremation ghat and is considered the most sacred place for a Hindu to be cremated. The deceased are managed by outcasts called doms, who transport the bodies through the old town’s alleyways to the holy Ganges on bamboo stretchers, wrapped in cloth. Before cremation, the body is immersed in the Ganges.
  • Nepali Temple (Kathwala Temple) - Shri Samrajeswar Pashupatinath Mahadev Mandir, also known as Nepali Mandir, Kanthwala Mandir, and Mini Khajuraho, is one of Varanasi’s oldest and most famous temples. This temple holds significant religious importance in Hinduism and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in the 19th century by the King of Nepal, the temple is constructed from terracotta, stone, and wood, and is a replica of the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.
  • Kashi Labh Mukti Bhawan - For Hindus, death should occur at home or in one of the sacred Hindu pilgrimage cities. Kashi, India’s holy city on the banks of the Ganges, is particularly favored, as it is believed that the souls of all who die there attain Moksha immediately.
