Oh Varanasi the Great ! - The more I say, the little it will be. A place I have always contemplated to travel since my childhood. There is a childhood nostalgia, especially applicable to those who have gone through Ray's creations and movies, but beyond that there exists an enigmatic charm in the soul of Varanasi that is deeply rooted to India's culture, tradition and spirituality. Varanasi is the heart of India and I felt her heart beat reverberating. We have fallen in love with the sweet behavior and the dialect of Banarasi people! And food was heavenly - pan to Malaiyo, to Lassi to Samosa Chat and many more, all just WOW ! Words are not enough to capture our enthralling experience at Varanasi. Har Har Mahadev !

Varanasi the oldest city in india - Even though it was very crowdy at the peak of winters at the end of year due to holidays we enjoyed the crowd.shoulder to shoulders crowd in markets and long queues at Kashi Vishwanath temple but that is all you can expect from any indian religious city that too Kashi temple where the tourist has increased from last two years after the revamp of temple complex. I remember my visit to Varanasi 30 years ago. This place is much better organised now Enjoyed the evening arti at famous Ghat sitting in boat and also morning arti with soulfull indian music at 84ghat at 5.30 am And the famous chat Resturant’s like Kashi chaat and Bedmi poori Subzi at Satyanarayan etc etc

Worth the cost - Rahul was a great guide. It was easy to find him at the meeting place and he was easily contacted through Instagram. There were only 3 in the group which I appreciated. He was very informative as we travelled by motor boat along the Gangar. Rahul explained about the different ghats, we saw the burning ghat and then we watched the Aarti ceremony from the boat before making our way back to the meeting point. It was only 2 hours but worth every penny. I would definitely recommend a guide for Varanasi as it can be quite overwhelming on your own. We are seasoned travellers yet found this place quite challenging on our own.

Varanasi - Varanasi is also known as Benares or Kasi.. There are 15 ancient cities in India. There is also ancient civilization and sites like Indus Valley civilization. The building structure is different and the roads are narrow They also call her as the spiritual capital of India.

Total Scam show! - If you would have showed up, maybe the trip would have been good. Left us waiting for the tour operator who never came. Then tried to get us to come back the next day.

Stay away from that tour - it is a scam - Despite the fact that the tour had been confirmed by the tour operator and already fully been paid for by me, the tour guide elected not to show up. His explanation was that he contacted me by email on the day of the tour a few hours before scheduled starting time. I was supposed to confirm by email to him my attandance. Since I was out and about in the city of Varanasi, I did not notice. The tour had been confirmed, I had paid the full amount up front, the starting time at 5:30pm was set and the meeting point clearly stated. And yet the guide could not be bothered to show up. Tripadvisor and Viator should do a quality check on their business partners! My advice is to stay away from that tour. It is highly overprised and totally unreliable. You will apparently get some unmotivated tour guide who will just book you on a boat with the locals. You can hire a boat ride at each of the ghats for a fraction of the tour price. The best way to see the Aarti is anyway on shore. No ticket needed. Just show up at one of the ghats that perform the Aarti.
