Our journey begins at (Chania Xenodoxio) as we venture toward the base of the White Mountains, deep into Chania’s interior. We traverse the citrus orchards and olive farms of the Agia region. The first stop on our itinerary is the historic Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration (Moni Metemorfoseos), where we explore the age-old premises and church, followed by a brief, trouble-free hike through a gorge speckled with ancient chapels and churches nestled among centuries-old pines.
Our journey continues as we make our way to a well-known local winery, unveiling the mysteries behind the exceptional wine production of Crete. We have the chance to sample various distinctive local wines and savor other regional treats such as raki and cheese.
Next up, we pause at Agia Lake, the region’s largest freshwater body, home to a wide variety of bird species and a unique flora. Here, we break for a coffee or a refreshing drink while taking in the stunning views of the lake.
Hiking details: Easy, 25-35 minutes in duration; please bring comfortable footwear for the walk.

- For visiting the Monastery, you must wear modest clothes: for women – skirt/dress under your knees and covered shoulders, for a man – trousers, T-shirt with long sleeves.
