Additional Information

Experience the most intriguing elements of Portuguese history with our Old Goa Heritage Walk. Previously, Old Goa was not only the capital of Goa but also a bustling city, even before the Portuguese era. It was once the heart of the empire of Bahmani Sultan Adil Shah. The Portuguese, led by Afonso de Albuquerque, arrived in 1510 and seized the city from Adil Shah, the Bijapur Kingdom’s leader. Their main intentions for the East were commerce and spreading Christianity.

On our Old Goa Heritage Walk, discover some extremely important historical edifices. Old Goa, a World Heritage site, is home to some of the most majestic and ancient churches in the region. The magnificent Sé Cathedral, St. Francis of Assissi Church, the Chapel of St. Catherine, Church of Our Lady of Rosary and the dome-shaped church of St. Cajetan are among the many you’ll see.

GOA is best enjoyed with Vimala’s tours - We did two tours with Vimala and they were fantastic. Vimala has deep knowledge about the local history and goes at a pace that’s customized to your need and interest. I will be recommending Vimala’s tours to all my friends visiting Goa

Amazing guide - I really enjoyed Vimala's knowledge of Old Goa, truly recommended. We walked all over the town and went into multiple churches and museums of Christian heritage and Portuguese influence in the area.

Special tour with Vimala - We had Vimala for our tour on a rainy Wednesday, definitely do not let the rain stop you from going on this tour, all of the trees and beautiful colours just pop. Vimala was fantastic we felt at home with her instantly. She was super knowledgeable about the history of old goa, something which we are now well versed in.

Lovely Morning History Walk - My partner and I spent a lovely morning walking around Old Goa with our storyteller, Vimala. We found it to be a perfect blend of historical information, walking, and friendly conversation. Vimala is an expert guide -- knowledgeable, kind, and engaging. As a student studying Indian history, I really appreciated Vimala's passion for the details of architectural syncretism in the area's old churches. We got to see the Viceroy's Arch, St. Cajetan Church, Se Cathedral, the Chapel of St. Catherine, and the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Afterwards, Vimala gave us some great recommendations on further historical sites to visit in the area. We recommend this tour wholeheartedly!

Great Tour - Vimala did a great job of sharing stories about Old Goa. I could've easily visited all these places on my own, but I would've missed so much. I'm usually not a big fan of guided tours, but this one was small, personal, and extremely well done.

Easy to learn with Vimala - Very instructive ..we learned a lot with Vimala....she made the tour very didactic. Old Goa is an insteresting place from a colonial and catholic point of view. She helped a lot after the tour finding a taxi for us because of the heavy rain
