-
Canal Grande - Known as “The most beautiful road in the world,” the Grand Canal is a symbol of Venetian culture, where gondola serenades have been a timeless tradition. The view around you is almost identical to what an 18th-century nobleman, a Renaissance courtesan, or a medieval merchant would have seen.
-
Teatro La Fenice - Once one of seven major theatres in Venice, La Fenice is now the city’s sole opera house. It stands as a gem among European theatres, having hosted operas by the greatest composers of the time, including Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini. However, it is Giuseppe Verdi who is most closely associated with La Fenice and Venetian history.
-
Palazzo Gritti Badoer - Named after the Gritti family, an old Venetian lineage, the Gritti Palace is most notable for Andrea Gritti, a Renaissance Doge of Venice who led the Venetian armies against the League of Cambrai, which included France, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire, in their attempt to curb Venice’s expansionist ambitions.
-
Peggy Guggenheim Collection - The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of the world’s most significant art collections. Peggy Guggenheim, originally from New York, arrived in Venice in 1949 and indulged her passion for art by acquiring this magnificent building to showcase invaluable artworks. The stunning terrace overlooking the Grand Canal was where Guggenheim often sunbathed.
-
Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute - As you enter the Grand Canal, the imposing church of the Madonna della Salute greets you. Its strategic location at the canal’s entrance offers a panoramic view of the city in all directions, thanks to its circular design. Every year on November 21, the city commemorates the end of the plague with a celebration in honor of the Madonna della Salute.
-
Campanile di San Marco - From your gondola, you can see the basin of St. Mark’s and the magnificent bell tower, which stands at the base of the remarkable square.
