Highlights
  • Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna - Built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the splendid imperial collections, it is now one of the world’s most important museums. Artefacts from ancient Egypt to classical antiquity to the late 18th century document the patronage and connoisseurship of the art-loving members of the House of Habsburg. In the Picture Gallery you can see celebrated master-pieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Raphael, Vermeer, Velázquez, Titian and Durer, as well as the world’s largest collection of works by Bruegel. At the Kunstkammer Vienna goldsmith’s works such as the famous saliera by Benvenuto Cellini, sculptural masterpieces, filigree works in ivory, valuable timepieces and complex automata by the best and most famous artists of the day – each item unique in the world – provide an unrivalled cross-section through the history of art. Equally enjoyable for every art-lover is the magnificent building itself with its imposing staircase featuring a series of paintings on which Gustav Klimt collaborated.

The Musium was amazing - It was a great experience, the only thing was that we stayed in line to get in just to find out that we needed to go back to a ticket box line to change our vouchers for tickets

The most beautiful museum - This was the most beautiful museum i’ve ever seen. The biggest art collection i’ve ever seen and the museum just looks amazing. There’s a really good cafe where you can go. The outside of the museum is so impressive but as soon as you see the light, you are gonna be amazed. Loved it

World class art history museum in Vienna - The Kunsthistorisches is a world class Art History Museum at Maria-Theresien-Platz that is open from 10am to 6pm daily. Entry is now €21 per adult and can be purchased online in advance or at the ticket booths outside the museum. Historically, the museum was opened in 1891 featuring the centuries old collection of Hapsburg artwork, sculptures and antiquity. We have enjoyed a handful of visits over the years and usually allocate a minimum of 3-4 hours to leisurely explore the sections of the museum we most enjoy including the mechanical treasures (Kunstkammer) and the famous Pieter Bruegel Room in the Old Masters Picture Gallery. The Klimt decorated stairway is impressive and we always a rest break at the Museum Cafe in the Dome Hall for a cup of coffee and strudel. Art aficionados can easily spend a full day at the museum. Those with less time can do highlight style visits in 1-2 hours. Use the khm website to view collection highlights, exhibition, layout and other museum details to help maximise your time if this is the case.

Best museum in Vienna - This museum is probably at the same level as the Louvre. We went around 3 PM and sadly, this is not enough time to see the whole place. It closes at 6 PM. However, we did see great works of Velazquez, Caravaggio, Bruegel the Elder, and Arcimboldo. The main reason why I wanted to go here was to see the 2 paintings from Animal Crossing specifically "Hunters in the Snow" by Pieter Bruegel and "Summer" by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. If you're really into art, I would spend at least 3-4 hours here because there is a lot to cover. If I get the chance to go back to Vienna, I'd definitely come back here.

Th Habsburgs' Imperial Collection of Art and Rare Objects - Over the centuries of their reign the Habsburgs gathered thousands of precious objects and works of art. The Cellini saltboat is perhaps the most famous object in this huge collection. One should plan a visit carefully, as seeing everything would take many days.

Great museum. - The museum was great. The prepaid entrance ticket was a bother. We needed to stand in line outside to use the e-ticket to then get a paper ticket. The staff at museum were not helpful. The rest of the visit was excellent and definitely worth seeing

Didn't really skip the line. - The barcode on my phone was not accepted without visiting the admissions desk. Luckily it wasn't that busy. Otherwise I wouldn't have skipped the line.

Tickets were not valid so I had to join the ticketing line for scannable tickets - This ticket was supposed to be a skip-the-line ticket, but when I went to present it to the person who scan a the ticket, he informed me that he could not scan it. I then had to line up at the ticketing line to have it converted to a scannable to ticket. I waited in line for almost half an hour. The whole point was to skip the line. The same happened with my skip-the -line ticket to see the treasury of Vienna. Very disappointing …..
