Highlights
  • Maria Theresien Square - We begin at the grand Maria Theresien Memorial located in Maria Theresien Platz. Maria Theresia was a formidable female ruler in the 18th century, and her monument is the most impressive on the Ringroad.

  • Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna - The Museum of Fine Arts evolved from the art collections of the House of Habsburg. Its picture gallery is one of the largest and most significant in the world today. Highlights include unique works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velázquez, and Italian Baroque painters.

  • Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum) - The Natural History Museum traces its origins to the imperial collections of the 18th century. “Dedicated to the kingdom of nature and its exploration,” the building, exhibitions, and collections create a total work of art with a unique atmosphere.

  • Ringstrasse - We cross the Ringstraße, a circular grand boulevard that encircles the historic central part of Vienna.

  • Burgtor - Palace gate. In 1809, Napoleon caused significant damage to the city walls. Between 1821-1824, a new gate for the Hofburg, known as the Burgtor, was built; it is the only remaining gate of the city’s walls.

  • Heldenplatz - Historic Heldenplatz (Heroes’ Place), once intended as an extensive imperial forum, is dominated by monumental equestrian statues of Prince Eugen and Archduke Karl. This spot offers the best view of the Imperial Palace and the adjacent Volksgarten.

  • Neue Burg - The Imperial Palace, which housed the imperial family until 1918, now contains the office of the Federal President, an important congress center, and numerous art collections.

  • The Hofburg - The imperial palace (Hofburg) was originally a 13th-century castle, later expanded into a splendid residence as the Habsburgs’ power and realm grew.

  • Wiener Hofburgkapelle / Wiener Hofmusikkapelle - The Gothic Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir performs during High Mass on Sundays, is a remnant of the Medieval Imperial Palace.

  • Burggarten - The Hofburg Palace Gardens, formerly known as the Emperor’s Garden, were created in 1819 atop the foundations of a former fortified compound, the Augustinerschanze.

  • Schmetterlinghaus - The Palm House in the Burggarten, also known as the Butterfly House, located in the town center.

  • Albertinaplatz - The Graphic Art Collection of the ALBERTINA Museum offers a comprehensive survey of art. Founded in 1776 by Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen, the collection now includes over one million drawings and prints from the late Gothic period to the present. Featuring works by Michelangelo, Dürer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Klimt, Schiele, Picasso, Richter, and Lassnig, the ALBERTINA Museum provides a rich overview of 600 years of art history. Due to their light sensitivity, the museum’s masterpieces are not on permanent display but are shown in special exhibitions under strict conservation standards.

  • Wiener Staatsoper - One of the most renowned and captivating opera houses in the world.

  • Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek - Visit the Augustinerkirche and the baroque State Hall of the Austrian National Library, one of the most important libraries in the world, located at Joseph Square.

  • Spanish Riding School - Stallburg. The stables of the elegant white Lipizzan horses.

  • St. Michael’s Church - St. Michael’s Church dates back to 1220.

  • Graben and Kohlmarkt - Kohlmarkt and Graben are the most exclusive shopping streets in Vienna.

  • Peterskirche - A beautiful 300-year-old Catholic church, famous for its classical concerts.

  • Plague Column (Pestsaule) - The Plague Column in Vienna.

  • Stephansdom Monument - The heart of the city, Saint Stephen’s Cathedral.
