Highlights
  • Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay - This excursion is located on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. In order to participate in our tour, an overnight stay on Vieques is required. Vieques is a separate island off of the main island of Puerto Rico. You will need to take a plane or ferry from the main island of Puerto Rico to reach Vieques, and you will need to arrange separate ground transportation because you will not be able to bring a rental car on the ferry with you. Because we only offer tours at night so that our clients can experience the glow of the bay, even if you take our earliest tour, you will not be back to our meeting point with enough time to get on a ferry or a plane back to the main island on the same day. Our guides will meet you in Esperanza directly across from Rainbow Realty (278 Calle Flamboyan). Roundtrip from the meeting point, the excursion is 2 hours, time on the bay about 1.5 hours, weather permitting. We provide transportation from the meeting point to the Bio Bay entrance and back.
What's Included
  • Round trip transportation from the meeting point to the Bio Bay entrance
  • Guide
  • Paddle and Life Jacket

Bio Bay Greatness! - We had a great tour guide “Dondi” ! We rode in a short bus along a bumpy trail. He took us out to the middle of the bay. Unfortunately we had our trip closest to a full moon, but he made up for it by gauging when clouds would cover the moon and covering the kayaks with a tarp to see the full effects of the dinoflagellates luminescence. He was very knowledgeable about the organisms and of the trees around the bay. We had a great tour, and highly recommend this tour!

meh guide - Started on time and the bio bay was beautiful. One of the tour guides (a man) was playing games on his phone any chance he got- even while we were in the kayaks. The experience was nice but felt rushed.

Could have been better, but enjoyed it! - First- we had a great time! Our tour guide was lovely and we got to see bioluminescent water. But… this tour was not what was advertised, and not what we had hoped for by paying top dollar. The kayaks were not clear, the tour started late, and there was no prep for the levels of mud we would encounter. After the tour, we found out there were other options that did better on these fronts. All that said- we still had a great time.

Left us standing at the meetup spot - Totally screwed by this operator. Our Tuesday night tour got cancelled due to weather and we get that. They offered to reschedule us for Thursday night at 10:30. We changed our Vieques hotel reservation and our Ferry tickets from Tuesday to Thursday which was not easy. Thursday night at 10:30 we are on Vieques standing at the meeting spot and…nobody. Finally got someone to answer the phone and was told “no, we said Friday”. Everyone in my family of five heard Thursday on speaker phone. We never could have agreed to Friday because we had a flight out of SJU Saturday morning, it would have been impossible for us to stay on Vieques Friday night we would have taken the refund instead. So we spent money for a hotel and got no tour and no options. Heartbroken kids. Thanks for absolutely nothing Vieques Kayaks look for that name when booking on trip advisor or anywhere else and avoid it!

Cancelled without notice - Because of the weather from hurricane beryl the tour didn’t run. We were able to take another tour and the water was ok. However, I understand cancelling. What was unacceptable is that they didn’t let us know - I messaged several times to no response, and only when I called did I find out the tour was cancelled. While it worked out for us, we passed several people who were waiting for the tour we were supposed to be on - they had never been contacted either. So disappointing.
