Highlights
  • Puerta del Alcazar - One of the initial stops is at the Alcázar Gate, named after the now-lost Alcázar of Ávila that once stood there. Opposite this gate is the Plaza de Santa Teresa, notable for the Romanesque Church of Saint Peter.
  • Puerta Del Rastro - We will briefly pause at the Puerta del Rastro on the southern side of the Wall, offering a splendid view of the Paseo del Rastro and the Ambles Valley. We will then enter the Wall to explore the Avila palatial.
  • Palacio de los Davila - The Dávila Palace, one of the oldest in the city dating back to the 13th century, is the first palace we encounter after passing through the Puerta del Rastro. Its viewing gallery above the wall gate is particularly noteworthy. We will stop here but not disembark.
  • Tower of Los Guzmanes - The Torreón de los Guzmanes, a 16th-century palace, houses a fascinating museum dedicated to the Vettones, ancient inhabitants of the region. The museum visit is not included in the tour. Nearby, we will also discuss the histories of the Superunda and Alamarza palaces.
  • Church and birthplace of Saint Teresa of Jesus - The tour includes a stop at the Basilica of Saint Teresa, built on her birthplace. We will enter to see the church, the old house’s patio, and Saint Teresa’s birth bed in a beautiful chapel. We will also visit the relic room, which houses Saint Teresa’s famous incorrupt finger, with our guide providing detailed explanations. From here, we will head to the Mirador de los Cuatro Postes.
  • The Four Posts - The second stop where we disembark is at the Mirador de los 4 Postes, offering one of the world’s most stunning panoramic views of the city embraced by the Wall. We will visit the Monument of the 4 Posts and the Ávila letters for photo opportunities.
  • Museo del Convento de la Encarnacion - We will pass by the Church and Convent of La Encarnación, hearing about its history. We will stop but not disembark, and the museum is not part of the tour.
  • Las Murallas de Avila - Traveling from the Convent of La Encarnación to the Puerta de San Vicente and Cathedral, we will see the North Canvas of the Wall and learn about its fascinating history.
  • Catedral de Avila - The tour includes passing by the Ávila Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Savior. We will listen to the audio guide and driver-guide’s commentary, with time for photos but without disembarking. The Cathedral visit is not included in the tour.
  • Plaza Mercado Chico - We will briefly stop at the Plaza de Mercado Chico. If the tour is on a Friday, you can see the historic Friday market, dating back to the 15th century when the Catholic Monarchs granted the city the right to hold a free market.
  • Puerta Del Carmen - Another stop where we disembark is at Puerta del Carmen, offering one of the best panoramic views of the Wall and the northern canvas, along with a beautiful landscape. This spot is one of the most frequently photographed images of the Wall.
  • Basilica de San Vicente - We will stop in front of one of Europe’s best-preserved Romanesque churches, which is beautifully illuminated at night.

Don’t book this event - Guide did not speak or provide any curation of the trip. I have been on other Victor trips with much success but this was really not up to par at all.
