Highlights
  • Vossevangen - Voss is a municipality in Hordaland county. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Vossevangen. Voss is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, forests, lakes and fast-flowing whitewater rivers. This has led to its development as a notable center of skiing, watersport, skydiving, paragliding and other adventure sports. Every year in the last week of June the area hosts the Ekstremsportveko (Extreme Sports Week), which is regarded as the world’s premier extreme sport festival. Bømoen, the local airstrip, is home to Skydive Voss, one of the largest dropzones in Norway, as well as a gliding club. The rivers provide various levels of white water, attracting kayaking, rafting and river boarding. Kite surfing and para-bungee may be seen on lake Vangsvatnet. The ski area, to the north of the town, is accessible via a cable car, Voss Gondol.
  • Tvindefossen - Tvindefossen is a waterfall near Voss on the road to Flåm. The many-stranded 110 meters high waterfall is formed by a small stream, the Kroelvi, tumbling over a receding cliff. It is famous for its beauty and many stop here to admire it. In the late 1990s the water at Tvindefossen acquired a reputation for rejuvenation and revival of sexual potency that made it one of the most important natural tourist attractions in western Norway, with as many as 200,000 people a year visiting and filling containers with the water. At one point it was Norway’s ninth most visited natural attraction, with 272,000 visitors.
  • Stalheimskleiva - The small village of Stalheim lies along the highway in the northeastern part of the Voss municipality. The village sits at a high point in the inner part of the Nærøydal valley which leads northeastwards towards the Nærøyfjorden. The highway runs through a series of tunnels to descend into the valley, but in the summer months we drive the old road Stalheimskleivi that was built in 1850 and can still be used with its hairpin turns and 18% grade. The Stalheimsfossen waterfall is the most notable sight in the area and the view from Stalheim hotel is well-known from several paintings.
  • Naeroyfjord - The Nærøyfjord is a narrow fjord in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county and is a branch of the large Sognefjord. The 18-kilometre (11 mi) long fjord is only 250 metres (800 ft) wide in some parts. The river Nærøydalselvi flows down the valley Nærøydalen into the fjord at the village of Gudvangen. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it has also been rated by National Graphic Society as the world’s number one natural heritage site.
  • Aurlandsfjord - Aurlandsfjord is a fjord in Sogn and Fjordane county. The fjord flows through the municipalities of Aurland, Vik and Lærdal. The 29-kilometre (18 mi) long fjord is a branch of the main Sognefjorden, Norway’s longest fjord. The fjord is deep and narrow, reaching a depth of about 962 metres (3,156 ft) and its width is generally less than 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide. About 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) south of the mouth of the fjord, the Nærøyfjord branches off from it to the west. The village of Flåm sits at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord; other villages along the fjord are Aurlandsvangen and Undredal. Most of the fjord is surrounded by up to 1,800-metre (5,900 ft) tall, steep mountains with little habitation along the fjord except for in a few small valleys.
  • Stegastein Lookout - Experience the spectacular Stegastein viewing platform with panoramic view 650 metres (2132 ft) above Aurlandsfjord. This structure, which juts out 30 metres from the mountainside above the fjord, offers an unparalleled panorama. A more amazing view of the fjord, mountains and surrounding landscape is hard to imagine. A sight to take your breath away and a perfect place for memorable holiday photos. Stegastein is one the most photographed viewpoints in the region. The Stegastein Viewpoint is part of the National Tourist Road that runs from Aurland to Lærdal, popularly known as “The snow road”. The viewpoint was designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen and was completed in 2006.
  • Undredal - Undredal is a unique Norwegian fjord village where people still have a strong connection to the land and their traditions. Undredal is famous for its goat cheese, stave church, architecture and breathtaking scenery. We’ll explore the Undredal village with a walking tour and enjoy magical fjord views. At “Eldhuset - House of cheese”, the local restaurant situated at the dock, the host will tell us about the historical goat cheese production and we will be served a local goat cheese lunch.
  • Undredal Stave Church - Undredal Stave Church is a church in Undredal. The church is only 12 by 4 metres (39 by 13 ft) and has 40 seats, making it the smallest stave church still in use in all of Scandinavia. The church was built in the middle of the 12th century, probably the year 1147. Around 1850, the building was extended to the west with the addition of a belltower and porch. In 1913, there were plans to dismantle the church and move it to a museum in the village of Kaupanger but this never happened. Instead it was reconstructed in 1984 and underwent extensive maintenance work. Inside the church, the ceiling is decorated with biblical figures and angels.

Additional Information

The journey starts in Bergen and travels to Nærøyfjord by private vehicle, taking the breathtaking route of Stalhemskleiva which provides an extraordinary view of the Nærøy valley. Once in Gudvangen, we board the ‘Future of the fjords’, an electric passenger ship and set sail for a two-hour Premium Fjord Cruise that covers Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord. From Flåm, we head to the Stegastein viewpoint, before making our way to Undredal, a delightful small village beside Aurlandsfjord.

Undredal, with its mere 100 inhabitants and an astounding 500 goats, is well-known for its goat cheese, produced using tried and tested methods. A lunch menu featuring both white and brown local goat cheese, goat salami, sour cream, cloudberry jam, crispbread and local fruit juices will be served at «ELDHUSET – house of cheese».

While in Undredal, we’ll also see the ancient Stave church, dating back to 1147. This church, with dimensions of 12 by 4 metres (39 by 13 ft) and a seating capacity of 40, is the smallest stave church still operational in Scandinavia.

Cool day! - Great trip! Great itinerary! And of course great Norwegian scenery. Goat cheese is something too, including that brown "cheese " caramel.

A long journey - Great private tour. Frode, our guide and driver, is very friendly and knowledgeable. We’ve seen beautiful places and the visit of a cheese fabric at the Frozen village is quite interesting. The only thing that I don’t like much is that the journey is quite long, you spend more time in the car than to visit. All in all, it’s a nice tour, and I warmly recommend Guided Fjord Tours.
