- Wachau - We meet at the main entrance of Vienna’s ‘Westbahnhof’ railway station, before a 1hr train ride to Melk, where we prepare the kayaks and provide a safety briefing prior to launch.
Western Wachau
The hills of the Western Wachau are carpeted in trees with castles and palaces sitting proudly atop many of the valley’s highest peaks. You’ll be in awe of the valley’s natural beauty from your privileged position, right at the heart of it on the Danube.
Wine Tasting & Lunch
The charming village of Spitz, approx half way through the valley, marks the beginning of the wine growing region. Noted for its dry Rieslings, Austria’s signature Gruner Veltliner, and the wonderfully unique and earthy Neuburger, we’ll be visiting one of the town’s finest local producers for an extensive tasting, before lunch in a nearby local hamlet.
Eastern Wachau
The further east we paddle, the steep valley landscape transforms into visually stunning rows of dry stone walls and vines, separated into hundreds of individual vineyard plots. We end in picturesque Durnstein, the undisputed gem of the valley. You can climb the famous castle ruins or meander through the village, taking in its old world medieval charm.
