Additional Information

Embark on a 2-hour round journey starting from the Valley of Willits and proceeding to the highest elevation on our railway track. This trip will guide you through Tunnel #2, leading to the Noyo River Canyon spilling over with redwoods—a fantastic location filled with ecological riches and a prime spot to witness the vast trees that earned Mendocino County their reputation.

The train halts momentarily at Crowley, presenting an opportunity to admire one of the most ancient and characteristic trees on our course, the Wolf Tree. It earned its moniker from a prominent branch sprouting from one side, a feature that foresters term as ‘wolf trees’ for their tendency to overshadow budding trees and shrubs. Travellers will have the chance to disembark at Crowley and soak in the views.

Experience this journey to Crowley inside one of our traditional Diesel-Electric trains.

Singing Conductor - Wow! What a fabulous experience! We boarded a beautiful and comfortable vintage train in Willits. Our conductor was Matthew and he explained lots of nature and history things. There was also The Singing Conductor who entertained us with railroad songs and even played a haunting flute in The forest when we stopped. There was a snack bar serving both soft drinks and alcoholic beverages as well as Popcorn and other snacks. There were bathrooms on the train and an open air car so we could be outside if we wanted. I highly recommend!

Good tour of the redwoods. - This was my second visit to the Skunk Train. The first time was from Fort Bragg, but, decided to do the Willits tour this time. It was a nice ride, and the conductor gave good information about the area along the way. All of the staff were very friendly, and helpful. It was a nice day trip!

Excellent attraction - Love love LOVED this experience! We took the 2 hour round trip from Willits to Crowley, and it was well worth the expense. Paid $65 each ticket - it is not assigned seats, but there were enough seats for everyone. They are bench seats, for 2, and they swap backs easily to face different directions, which comes in handy because they train doesn't turn around, it just gets pulled one way and then back the other way. They had an engineer, 2 conductors, a concession stand attendant, and then a roving singing conductor. On the way out to Crowley, one of the conductors gives you some history, and points out a few historical landmarks. The concession stand had alcohol options, water, soda, bags of chips, popcorn, and a few candies. There's 2 cars with the bench seats, one of which has the concession stand. There's a bathroom in each of those cars. There was also an open car that you can stand in. You can find a seat, and then walk out to the open car if you want. You have windows at each seat, that go halfway up if you want. You aren't going fast enough for it to be freezing, it was nice to be able to take pictures out of the open sides. The roving singing conductor was tun - singing train songs, had a guitar, even took requests! They all wore outfits that were fun too. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful, Magical Journey - We have been riding the Skunk for decades. It is always a relaxing, beautiful journey. Our May 2024 trip was so magical. Not only was the view spectacular, we also really enjoyed Malakai the singing conductor. Malakai played the guitar and plan flute so beautifully. His singing was amazing. He can perform pretty much any train song requested. Thank you, Malakai, for making our trip so magical!

ALL ABOARD !!! - My wife and I road the Skunk train - Wolf Tree Turn and man did we have fun. This was a great experience and well worth the coast. Traveling into the Redwoods via slow train is a trip back in time, that's filled with mystical views. Giant Redwoods abound and getting there while listening to Conductor Malakai sing his train songs was magical too.

Train to nowhere! - This is the train that goes to nowhere. No entertainment, no dossier, not much of anything but riding on a train. On the return trip they brought back musicians and their equipment from playing the night before. All the equipment was stacked on the open-air car and there was little room for the paying customers to stand out there. Also there is no smoking on the train, but the musicians were smoking anyway, which was very irritating to me, since I was a paying customer.
