Highlights
  • The Residenz - Discover the history and unique features of the Würzburg Residence from the outside. This UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981 is one of Europe’s most significant baroque palaces.
  • Dom - Explore the Romanesque St. Kilian’s Cathedral from the outside and, if accessible, from the inside as well. Experience a fascinating blend of High Romanesque, Baroque, 1950s reconstruction, and modern interior design.
  • Neumuenster - The Neumünsterstift captivates with its intricate facade and valuable interior decor. Hear the Franconian legend of St. Kilian, closely tied to the Neumünster, and get clear explanations about the modern art and historical works inside. Discover why the oversized dome is actually misplaced.
  • Haus zum Falken - The Falkenhaus, with its unique rococo facade, was a grand inn in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mr. Karl reveals hidden details in the facade and shares anecdotes about the house’s history.
  • Marienkapelle - Tour and visit the interior of the late Gothic Marienkapelle, Würzburg’s only civil church. Learn about its history, architecture, art, and why it is called a chapel despite its size, and why shops have always lined its outer wall.
  • Market Square - Around the market square, witness an “architecture and architectural style exhibition” with buildings from various eras: a Renaissance palace next to 1950s post-war architecture, the Romanesque Hof zum Schwanz, Balthasar Neumann’s baroque department store opposite the Gothic church, and in the center, a fountain in the style of “revolutionary classicism.” This beautiful setting also hosts Würzburg’s green weekly market.
  • Rathaus Wuerzburg - The Würzburg town hall is an ensemble of buildings from different periods. See the medieval “Grafeneckart” with its ornate facade, a painted court linden tree, a 15th-century tower clock, a sundial, and a storm bell. The documentation room covers Würzburg’s destruction in World War II and its subsequent reconstruction, featuring an impressive model of the ruined city in March 1945, illustrating the sensible rebuilding of the inner city up to the 1970s.
  • Alte Mainbruecke - From the Old Main Bridge, enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the Marienberg Fortress, the Würzburger Käppele - Balthasar Neumann’s spectacular pilgrimage church, various church towers, vineyards, the Mainviertel, the Steinburg, and the Main River. Your guide, Mr. Karl, will provide background on all these sights and introduce the 12 saints on the high medieval bridge.
  • Alter Kranen Wurzburg - A historic harbor facility featuring an impressive 18th-century crane. Enjoy excellent views from the Mainkai of the Main River, the Marienberg Fortress, and the beautiful vineyards.
