Highlights
  • West Thumb Geyser Basin - West Thumb Geyser Basin is the first major attraction you will reach if you enter Yellowstone National Park from the south. It is located near Grant Village, on the shores of Yellowstone Lake.

West Thumb Geyser Basin is one of several active geyser basins within the park, but each geyser basin has something special to offer visitors, so they are all worth visiting.

  • Dragon’s Mouth Springs - The Crow saw the steam from this mudpt as snorts of an angry bull bison. An unknown European American gave it the current name. Its previous names include Gothic Grotto, Blowing Cavern, and The Belcher.

The surging action has decreased since 1994, though no one is sure why. In 1999, more dramatic changes occurred: the water temperature dropped 10 degrees and the color changed from green to chalky white.

  • Lower Yellowstone River Falls - Lower Falls, the biggest waterfall in Yellowstone, is the most famous in the Park, hands down. In fact, the 308-foot tall waterfall it is most likely the second most photographed spot in Yellowstone, with Old Faithful Geyser being the first. There are numerous views of the Falls from both the east (Inspiration Point, Grandview Point and Lookout Point) and west (Artists Point) sides of the Grand Canyon, most of which require only a short walk or virtually no walk to see. The trail to the top of the Falls (3/4 of a mile roundtrip, but steep with many switchbacks) is a must, as the experience of standing atop the Falls is one of the most breath-taking experiences in the entire Park.
  • Grand Prismatic Spring - The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world, after Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand and Boiling Lake in Dominica.
  • Norris Geyser Basin - Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest, oldest, and most dynamic of Yellowstone’s thermal areas. The highest temperature yet recorded in any geothermal area in Yellowstone was measured in a scientific drill hole at Norris: 459°F (237°C) just 1,087 feet (326 meters) below the surface! There are very few thermal features at Norris under the boiling point (199°F at this elevation).
  • Old Faithful - Old Faithful is a cone geyser in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, United States. It was named in 1870 during the Washburn–Langford–Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to be named. It is a highly predictable geothermal feature and has erupted every 44 minutes to two hours since 2000
  • Schwabacher Landing - Schwabacher’s Landing is the location that truly highlights the immense beauty of Grand Teton National Park.
  • Snake River Overlook - Snake River Overlook is the iconic view of Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park originally made famous by the legendary landscape photographer Ansel Adams.
  • Mormon Row Historic District - Historic Place
