ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT - Our Tokyo trip was so wonderful, but out of everything, this took the win!! Ali was such an amazing host. His English is easy to understand, and his attention to giving us facts to knowing when we wanted to rest we spot on. Now the monkeys omgosh the monkeys are fantastic. I personally own 5 rescued capuchin monkeys. I have built them a wonderful habitat, but to see monkeys play in their natural environment is absolutely amazing. These are not shy guys as they will stand and run right in front of you. I am heavy set women so the hike is a little intense but i made it just fine it is slick though. It was a long drive(but well worth it), and if you are not fans of crowds or tours, then this is right for you.

Monkeys and Temples - This was a special private tour to see the Snow monkeys in Nagana. Something I had been wanting to do. Be warned. Nagano is a three hour drive, and as luck would have it, on the day I had booked, a Typhoon combed across the country and the ride was a struggle through the rain. My guide Rana was a trouper and the poor weather did not deter him from getting me there in good time and safely. The plus side of the weather was that the monkey park was completely empty of tourists and I was able to view the many delightful creatures almost all to myself, which made for good photographs! After taking a small lunch at the park, we continued to view a small museum and a Sake tasting in the Japanese village (I forget the name unfortunately, but it’s close to Nagano). Thereafter we headed to the Temple of the Hidden Buddha, which was the location of first statue brought to Japan. You won’t see it, because it is hidden but the temple is spectacular and DK walk around the grounds so you see all the outer temples also. By now it was almost impossible 3.30pm and so Rana who had been explaining to me some of the traditions and customs of Japan, drove me back to Tokyo - about just under three hours now, and I was back in the hotel by 7ish perfect for dinner. This is a fun trip if you like seeing the countryside and the monkeys. The Temple is great but you can get a similar experience inside Tokyo.
