Unnamed Road - Treasure Hunt York will take you on a beautiful route, and send you to fabulous places, all at your own pace. Because it’s all on your phones, it’s super flexible and there’s nothing to print.
You’ll have a laugh solving the clues and following the maps. Something in a shop window catch your eye? No problem. Take it at your own pace. Even turn it into a pub crawl! Along the way you’ll learn interesting facts and stories keeping you entertained.
By the end of it all, you’ll have a great overview of York and what you’d like to explore next.
It’s works like WhatsApp, so it’s easy to use. You don’t need to download or print anything and it doesn’t need any permissions. Plus, you get to start when you want.
Play together Captain Bess will invite you and your friends to join the hunt. Follow maps Bess sends you a series of treasure maps to your phones, leading you around the city. Search for answers Bess sends you a series of clues and you have to search the city for answers. Don’t worry if you can’t find the answer right away, you can always ask for hints. Along the way, she’ll tell you interesting facts and stories about the things you’re spotting.

Fabulous way to navigate York - Great fun and a fantastic way to see York and navigate the city, took in a few shops and pubs on route. Kept the kids occupied (17 and 11). Highly recommend.

Great fun and interesting way of discovering a city - While this was not our first treasure hunt, we still get a thrill when we find a clue. It's fun when people are crowding to see some super popular sight and you just walk by to the side to discover at a little sign/ sculpture/ picture that is your clue and gives you more insight as to what you're looking at. It feels like an adventure every time.

Easter weekend treasure trail - We went as a group of 4 adults and 5 children ages 6-11. The route was fun and engaging and really easy to follow. We got to see many of the main sites in York and we all had an amazing day. The variety of snickleways helped to make it feel like a real adventure. Thank you!!

Do it! - Brilliant app, great clues and a super way to get a look around York. I 100% recommend, the clues were simple yet complex enough for my 8 year old to help. There are other free hunts around the city (like the black cats) but they aren’t tied to landmarks in the same way. Would be better if each solved clue unlocked some audio file or facts about where you were too.

Squares and Snickleways - We really enjoyed finding our way around York using back alleys and snickleways. We found some places we hadn't seen before, even though this was our third visit to the city. Some of the clues were more tricky but that made it challenging and enjoyable.

Interesting and quirky POIs - This was a fun way to see some more quirky and interesting features of York and to while away a few hours. As we did this on a winter Sunday some parts of the route were closed but the instructions were always clear on what to do if this was the case. An enjoyable couple of hours!

Great experience! - The treasure hunt was so fun! We got to see so many amazing sights in York and learned a bit of the history along the way. The clues were great and not too hard, but still made us think. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys scavenger hunts, whether you are a tourist or a local!

Great fun with lots of bonus interest points along the way. - We really enjoyed the Treasure Hunt - York. The Whatsapp format works really well. The previous day we had taken one of the mobile phone audio tours and the Treasure Hunt supplemented this really well as it took us down other side roads and "snerkle ways" not covered. The knowledge that we had gained from the audio tour did not spoil any of the Treasure Hunt. We would recommend that you do both, in the order that we did.
The one minor irritation with the Treasure Hunt was that it ended in a different place, on the opposite side of the York centre, to the start point. This meant that there was a little detective work required to find our way back - but then it is a Treasure Hunt. It would be good if the route could be extended, with a few more clues, to take us back to the start point.

Sightseeing with a different - Was a fun way to see a city we have visited many times before, did take us to places we never expected to visit or even knew existed. We did get stuck and had to ask for hints a few times, sometimes it was hard to understand what was being asked. It took us the whole day but gave us the option to do it at our own pace.
