Excellent whale watch - Currently there seem to be more southern Right hanging out at Gansbaai, than in neighbouring Hermanus, which is why we chose Ivanhoe whale watch . We were lucky enough to soon find Mum and calf , who came so close to the boat, you could feel the spray of the blow. We’re able to watch them for a fair while, and get some great footage. Saw quite a few other whales too. We’d certainly use Ivanhoe again .

Interesting - It was quite an experience.Enjoyable even though it was windy and the boat ride a bit rocky. We saw few whales but I know such trips are a risk as nature has her own course.

Good experience - I liked this activity. The driver was a cool guy. I think you offer a vehicle with more space, almost 3hs tightly wasn’t good.

Strange - We had booked weeks before, unfortunately the tour was cancelled a day before due to the weather, incomprehensible for us, as we then spontaneously experienced a similar tour with success and nice weather with another provider.

Whales were amazing but staff seem to forget it’s a first for guests - Fairly decent but not worth the drive from Cape Town. We combined this whale watching with shark diving - separate review for that. We sailed 15 mins out of the bay and luckily watching whales breaching. They skipper stated it was getting too choppy after just a short while and took us back in after a short while. We didn’t sail any further than 15 mins from shore and were out for around 45 mins (including the journey out). I feel the guys are so used to this amazing experience that they perhaps forget some of us will likely never see it again. The whales were amazing and continued to breech all the way back to shore sadly we were unable to stay and observe. Very short lived experience, expensive, a lot of travelling from Cape Town and we wouldn’t recommend. Try and find somewhere closer to Cape Town if possible

Never again. - Unfortunately, the tour was first postponed and then rebooked without our consent. We didn't see any whales. The snack didn't arrive, nor did the drinks. A total of 6 hours' drive from Hout Bay, two hours of boating along the coast. The dolphins were nice. But that was it... there wasn't a boat big enough for 40 people either. Never again...

Choose another company. - We didn't see any whales, which is not under the control of the crew. However, it still could have been a great experience. Sadly, it was not. We weren't even greeted on arrival. Communication was terrible. After a cursory briefing, we set off in high expectation, and heard barely a word from the crew until they dropped us back at port fifteen minutes early. Almost no information on the wildlife/birds, history of the area, or anything else. They just didn't seem that interested - they seemed to be going through the motions. Sure, they offered vouchers for a future date, but as most of those on board were leaving the country, it seemed like a lot of money for nothing, and was sooooo disappointing. A bucket list experience fell very very flat.
