Highlights
  • Viatica Travel - Istria experience starts in Zagreb when our guide picks you up at your accommodation. The drive from Zagreb to Pula is approximately 3 hours so we always recommend an early start for this tour. So, our first stop is the city of Pula.

PULA – the biggest city and the center of the Istrian peninsula. The earliest mentioning of the city was in the 10 century BC when it was founded by an ancient tribe. The city was well known by the Greek travelers and sailors so it was also included in some Greek myths. The Romans have made the city strong in the 1st century and you will explore with us the vivid remains of that era. It is well known for the roman arquitecture and the most famous of them is Arena, one of the best preserved amphitheaters in the world, the several gates to the city ( Arch of the Sergii, gate of Hercules…) or the Temple of Augustus.

After a 45 minute drive you arrive at ROVINJ. The city was also founded by the Istrian tribes. It was built on a small island close to the mainland and in the 18th was connected to it. It was ruled for 5 centuries by the Venice so both Italian and Croatian language are official in the city. During this period the walls were built around the city and the remains are seen even today. Rovinj is a real gem and adored by tourists because in reality on every step you take you are forced to take another photo.

Another 45 minute drive and we are in POREĆ – the old town almost 2000 years old is most famous for its Euphrasian basilica, which is from 1997. on the UNESCO world heritage list. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Istria. You can still notice the roman influence and the arquitecture in the city. You will walk the main streets, still preserved in its original form.

Wonderful day out in Istria! - Our guide picked us up at 7:30am and we enjoyed a full day in beautiful Istria! Rovinj was absolutely wonderful and we were afforded a good amount of time to tour it alone before proceeding to Pula. Our guide was caring, explained the history of Croatia in detail and ensured our constant wellbeing. 100% recommended!

Wonderful Day Trip! - Tonya picked up our family of 5 from our apartment in Zagreb in a private comfortable van. This is a day trip but ABSOLUTELY worth it! The history in these 3 cities is unbelievable! You feel like you are in Italy! We walked through all the cities, saw a bunch of the main churches, basilica and had lunch at an Italian restaurant right on the water with a beautiful view! Our favorite part was the Colosseum. We have seen so many all over the world, but this was very intact, and they are always so breathtaking in view. We ended the night getting hot coco and letting our children enjoy the Christmas village in the square. Tonya was so wonderful with our children!

Great job Tanya and Viatica Travel - I had a fantastic time with Tanya, who very quickly became a very good friend. She was both knowledgeable of the Istrian area and very friendly/easy to get on with. I would highly recommend her services (and the rest of Viatica Travel) for any prospective travelers to Croatia, Slovenia or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lovely Istria - Tanija was a most excellent guide. It was quite a drive from Zagreb, but so worth it to see the old Illyria of Rome. The colosseum was incredible...

Beautiful sights, great experience - Our private tour of Istria was a great experience. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and offered us options of sites to visit based on our interests. Rovinj was the jewel of the trip. A beautiful Venetian seaside town with the feel of Italy. Recommend taking a boat tour to get another perspective of the town and surrounding islands. The medieval town of Hum was very quaint and reminded us of the hillside towns in Tuscany. Would highly recommend this tour.

Beside having the best time visiting those places, we were lucky to have Tania as our guide. She was very friendly, helpful and also a great companion for our journy. Deeply recommended.

Long trip! - It was a long trip and truth to tell, there was not much to see. Our guide, Milan, was very nice but he didn't really say much about each destination. He was nice, friendly, funny, accommodating but I didn't learn much about each place because he gave us very little or no info about each place we visited. He drove us to all these places, let us off, told us how many minutes we had in each place and that was it! I could have given this tour a miss!
