Highlights

The Junction Lookout - Cycle one of NZ’s Great Ride Routes from Cromwell to Clyde on one of our brand new fleet of bikes. After the ride we then return you to the start point (where you left your car) by our luxury transport.

A 42km ride on an excellent Grade 1-3 trail. The surface is very good compacted gravel. Our recommendation is that riders choose our e-bike option. There is 25km of the trail without any road access.

This is a self guided bike ride so you are free to move along the trail at the speed of your own group. Riders should be 12 years and older (our oldest rider so far has been nearly 80), fit and confident on a bike.

You will see from the photos that this is a great trip for family and friends. The e-bikes allow you to choose your own ‘assistance’ levels (including ‘off’) which ensures that no-one has to put in too much effort or is left behind trying to catch up!

With great places to stop along the way including Carrick Winery, Burger & Coffee Afloat and finishing by buying a quick celebratory drink in historic Clyde before your shuttle back to Cromwell.

Single Riders will be waitlisted. If you are a single rider we will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your booking.

Additional Information

This trail travels alongside Lake Dunstan on the opposite side of the lake to the road that travels between Cromwell and Clyde.

The engineering involved to create this trail is stunning with clip-ons attached to the rockface in places, the Hugo Suspension Bridge plus a very good trail surface throughout the ride.

The views and scenery on this ride are fantastic and you can fully understand the history of the area - from the goldrush to the building of NZ’s largest dam - by reading the information boards along the way.

The Junction Lookout

Meet at the Cromwell Junction Lookout. This is a large circular drive in lookout area. You will see a black Executive Mercedes Sprinter waiting to issue you with your e-bikes. If you are leaving a parked vehicle close-by please park it on the road.

Great trail and local insights! - Great service and awesome local insights/recommendations from our man Dan! The Cromwell-Clyde bike trail itself is great. Very grateful we had their ebikes though or it would've been pretty hard. My bike did have some gearing issues, but luckily there was a final check stop and they had a spare bike. The spare worked great for the rest of the trail. Thanks for having us team! (Also for the extra gloves!)

Hilarious and informative. - We rode the Dunstan trail as a group with our own bikes. Right from the outset David and his team were quick to reply to queries and requests, even problem solving. David was waiting when we arrived in Clyde. Thank you David for the commentary driving back to Cromwell, we actually learnt some new things. It was a fun, informative drive back and David dropped us off at our accommodation which we were not expecting. We would totally recommend NZ Bike Trails and we certainly will use again. Many thanks 🤩

Great experience, and love the attention for details - Great experience from making the booking over the phone, to being received by our guide Dan, and of course the biking experience itself over such a cool trail. We did the Lake Dunstan bike trail, and loved everything about it. We were lucky with the beautiful autumn weather, but I also really want to complement the business who organised it. They pay a lot of attention to detail, and make sure you are set up for a good time. Loved the photos that were emailed after our experience! Highly recommend

World class trail with excellent shuttle service - This is a fantastic trail for e-bikes. The scenery is beautiful. There are some class 3 areas, which means it’s for intermediate bikers. We managed it fine, and we have only e-biked a handful of times. David and Dan at NZ Bike Rentals were both very nice to work with. Great experience all around.

Awesome experience - Dan was awesome. This was a great trip exactly as planned. Dan was there on time, great safety review and great e-bikes. This trail is amazing. Highly recommend NZbiketrails self-guided tour. Shuttle back was seamless.

Dunstan Cycleway - Amazing! - Our experience with NZBikeTrails on the Dunstan Cycleway was nothing short of amazing. We were sold when we met the fantastic team bringing home a group in Wanaka, and their smiles said it all. We booked in and had the experience of a lifetime. With lots of info, a great tutorial on E-bikes, and lots of laughs and encouragement from Dan we set off on some of the best trails we have ever ridden. Smooth and well maintained along the entire 42km’s, the track allowed for immersion in the beautiful landscape of crystal-clear lakes, dramatic and changing scenery (conveniently supplied with wineries), and warm, friendly chats with locals and other travellers that created a shared adventure we will remember forever. Professional from start to finish, Dan made our day with lots of local knowledge and recommendations, incredible equipment (highly recommend the E-bike for this trail to really enjoy the views), and a great sense of humour. We did so many incredible things in New Zealand it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the Dunstan Cycleway with NZBikeTrails is top of our highly recommend list to anyone lucky enough to find themselves in this beautiful part of the world.
