Highlights
  • Aqueduto da Agua de Prata - The Água de Prata Aqueduct, also known as Aqueduto da Água da Prata or Aqueduto da Prata, is a complex work of Renaissance hydraulic engineering with the aim of supplying the city of Évora with water. Inaugurated in 1537
  • Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana) - Another monument of great value is the Temple of Diana or Temple of Évora, which justifies the importance that the Romans gave to this beautiful city, next to the Cathedral, built in the Roman period
  • Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora) - Fortified Gothic church, the Cathedral of Évora is the largest cathedral in Portugal. Initiated in 1186, consecrated in 1204, and immediately used as one of the great temples of Marian worship, it was only completed in 1250. It is a monument that showcases the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style, with subsequent Renaissance and Baroque additions.
  • Igreja de Sao Francisco - The Church of São Francisco in Évora is a church of Gothic-Manueline architecture. Built between 1480 and 1510 by the stone masters Martim
  • Capela dos Ossos - But let’s go to the cathedral. To get there, you only have to go up Rua 5 de Outubro, one of the best to buy Alentejo handicrafts.
  • Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Graca - The Church of Graça or Convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça, is an important Renaissance religious monument in the city of Évora
  • Evora Public Garden - The Public Garden of Évora is a magnificent garden, both for its diversity of vegetation and colors, as well as for its tranquility, and even for the invitation to romance found in the various corners here.
  • Ruinas Fingidas - These ruins are located in the public garden, next to the Palace of Dom Manuel. They were built in 1863 by the Italian choreographer Giuseppe Cinnatti.
These mock ruins include battlements inspired by Moorish architecture, paired windows with horseshoe arches, porticos, and a tower, all revivalist elements.
  • Palacio de Dom Manuel - The Palace of Dom Manuel, also known as the “Gallery of the Ladies,” is located in the Public Garden of Évora. It is an elegant fifteenth-century pavilion, the only surviving structure of the former Royal Palace of Évora, which was destroyed in the nineteenth century. With various Moorish influences, Manueline naturalistic decoration, and Romanesque-inspired details, it is a luminous and spacious building that has become one of the city’s most cherished venues for cultural events. Visit the permanent exhibition at the Interpretive Center of the City of Évora or the temporary exhibitions.
  • Praca do Giraldo - In Évora, all roads lead to Praça do Giraldo. It has always been this way since its construction in 1571/1573.
  • Centro Historico de Evora - The city-museum of Évora has roots that go back to the time of the Roman Empire. The city still conserves, to a large extent in its central nucleus, traces of different civilizations and cultures: Celts, Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians
  • Tapetes de Arraiolos - Centro Interpretativo - The Interpretative Center of the Arraiolos Carpet is a permanent museum space serving the community, with the mission of promoting the study and dissemination of the Arraiolos Carpet, as well as its conservation, protection, valorization, and recognition as historical, artistic, and ethnographic heritage, both in its material and immaterial aspects.
  • Herdade do Freixo - The Herdade do Freixo is an agricultural company located in the northeast of Alentejo, in the municipality of Redondo, which focuses its main activity on wine production with grape varieties with high adaptive potential to the soil and climate of the property, innovating in the production details that give character and savoir faire to its wines.
