Highlights
  • Aurora Ice Museum - After being picked up, sit back, relax and enjoy the 60 mile (97 kms) journey out to Chena Hot Springs Resort. Keep a lookout for wildlife that might include a moose, beaver or fox.

Upon arrival, you’ll be given a guided tour of the Aurora Ice Museum, constructed of over 1000 tons of ice and snow. Marvel at magnificent ice-sculptures created by world-renowned ice carvers, sit at the ice bar on a caribou-hide covered bar stool or indulge in an appletini served in a hand-carved ice glass (optional-not included in price). You will then be shown to our table in the restaurant where you can enjoy some dinner and hot or cold beverages (optional and not included in price).

Rejoin your group a little after midnight and head back to Fairbanks. Your guide may make a few stops along the way for further aurora viewing if it is active.

Please note the aurora is an act of nature and it’s appearance cannot be guaranteed.

  • Chena Hot Springs Resort - After arriving at the resort, you’ll be taken to the restaurant where you can sample some home grown Alaskan fare (optional and not included in price). Enjoy a hot or cold beverage at the bar or don your bathing suit and head to the hot springs. The revitalizing mineral water soothes muscles with its warm temperatures of 106 degrees F (41 degrees C) year-round. You can soak under the stars in an outdoor hot tub, or indoors in the heated pool.

When ready, join your expert guide for a small-group outing to view the Aurora Borealis. Your guide will lead you through one of the best places on earth to witness the green and purple illuminations loop across the night sky. Wait and witness the celestial wonder in the late evening, when viewing opportunities are the highest. The lights are also visible inside the cafe’s Aurora Room, which serves as a comfortable and warm location for viewings.

Note: We can never guarantee the Northern lights sighting.

A Fun Time - Gene was amazing as a tour guide. Her time living here and her stories were heart warming. The ice museum was cool, literally too, and the people in the tour made my solo trip great. The hot spa was nice. Even with the lights on in the spa we still saw the aurora lights easily. Good times.

Highly recommend - Jean was our driver, narrator and guide. She has a calming and lovely voice. She was just amazing!!! Highly recommend her., The chena hot springs park is lush green in summer and the views of the mountains and greenery were breathtaking. The buildings have s charming rustic feel to them. We got perfect shots of the northern lights while enjoying the hot springs under the stars, your mileage of course might vary as the lights are elusive at times.

Life changing! - The view was amazing!! The ice museum was fun! The hot springs were great! The restaurant had issues but they weren’t the tours spots. Only wish the hot spring didn’t have any bright lights caused a small issue with the northern lights

Great time! - We had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the Guide, She was very informative and helpful! The Ice museum was very neat. The Appletini in an ICE GLASS was a once in a lifetime experience. Excellent meal. Then a very nice dip in the HOT SPRING capped off the night. We had cloudy weather so no northern lights. So sad, but no one can control the weather.

Terrific Tour - The most memorable part of this tour was the Chena Hot Springs. What a terrific experience and the atmosphere was incredible. Although we weren’t lucky enough to see the Northern Lights, our tour guide Jean was so helpful in getting us to see it. She went above and beyond for our group and was very knowledgeable about the Northern Lights and the entire journey.

Chena Hot Springs and Ice Museum - We enjoyed our trip to the ice museum and hot springs. Our guide Jean was great, very knowledgeable and friendly and had great stories. Unfortunately we did not get to see the northern lights due to cloud coverage, but everyone had a great time.

Great experience and wonderful tour guide. - Overall, it was a great experience. The hot springs were enjoyable but alas the weather and sun activity was not cooperating, so no lights. Jean our tour guide was outstanding and extremely knowledgeable. She had the whole van hanging on every word as she told us of her experiences in Alaska and educated us on the history of the Fairbanks area and the Chena hot springs. In lieu of seeing the Aurora, she made a short side detour for us to see the Alaskan pipeline up close.

Cool but overpriced - Kathy was our guide, and she did an excellent job. She was punctual, accommodating, and provided an informative narrative during our journey. She answered all our questions and made a point to check in with everyone to ensure we were satisfied. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy, so we didn’t get to see the northern lights, nor did we encounter any wildlife along the drive. While I understand this is beyond the company’s control, I was disappointed that they do not offer future discounts for missed experiences. Although they were flexible in allowing me to change the date of my trip, I found their ability to provide advice on forecasts for the lights lacking. I also felt the trip was overpriced considering the overall experience. The ice museum was a highlight, but overall there were no additional benefits compared to what a non-tour guest would receive, and you get there so late that other attractions are closed. I should mention that the hot springs and ice museum are located next to each other, with admission only costing $20 each! For a group of people, it would have been more economical to rent a car, but this tour might be a good option for solo travelers.
