Ollantaytambo - Our AB team will pick you up from your hotel in the city of Cusco at 4:30 a.m. for your 4-day Inca Trail, After breakfast in Ollantaytambo, we will head to km 82 (Piscakucho) to begin our adventure to Machu Picchu, where you will meet our expert team and pass through the checkpoint. The trek begins with a 3-hour hike to the Llactapata ruins, followed by a one-hour drive to Hatunchaca camp for a delicious lunch. Then, we will hike for 4 hours to Ayapata, our first campsite, where your tents will be set up and hot tea will be served upon arrival around 5:00 p.m.

Ayapata – Dead Woman’s Pass - Runkuraqay – Chaquicocha

Wayllabamba - Early morning, you’ll be awakened with either hot tea or coca tea to start the most challenging day of the 4-day trek to Machu Picchu. We’ll embark on a roughly 4-hour hike to Dead Woman’s Pass (4215m / 13829ft), the highest point of the Inca Trail Trek, where breathtaking landscapes await, and our guide will perform offerings to the local Gods. Following this, we’ll descend to Pacaymayu Valley for a 2-hour journey, indulging in a delectable lunch prepared by our chef. Continuing our trek, we’ll hike for another 1.5 hours to the second pass, Runqurakay (4000m / 13123ft), exploring the Inca site of the same name along the way, before descending to Sayacmarca ruins. Pressing forward, we’ll reach our second campsite, Chaquicocha (3600m / 11811ft), where you can relish a stunning sunset over the Vilcabamba mountain range and marvel at the Milky Way before dinner.

Chaquicocha – Intipata – Wiñaywayna

Winay Wayna - Today offers a more leisurely pace with just 5 hours of hiking to reach the final campsite. Beginning with a gentle Peruvian flat terrain for approximately 2 hours, the trek then descends to the campsite, showcasing diverse ecosystems and offering panoramic views of the Salkantay glacier, the second-highest peak in the Cusco region. Along the way, we’ll explore two Inca ruins, Phuyupatamarka, and Intipata, with our guide providing insights into each site. Upon reaching Intipata ruins, the last campsite becomes visible, and after a brief explanation from our guide, we’ll arrive at the campsite around 12:30 p.m. Following lunch, guests can shower and relax with a siesta until around 4 p.m., when we’ll embark on a short hike to explore the Inca ruins of Wiñaywayna, allowing for free time for photography. Returning to the campsite, we’ll bid farewell to our dedicated porters and enjoy dinner before retiring early to prepare for the following day’s adventures.

Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Machu Picchu - Today, the eagerly awaited culmination of our journey arrives as we rise early to embark on the final stretch of the Inca Trail, passing the checkpoint at 5:30 a.m. Following this, a 1-hour and 20-minute hike brings us to the Sun Gate, offering breathtaking views of the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Descending for 45 minutes, we reach the Mapi checkpoint around 8:00 a.m. Our experienced tour guide then leads a 2-hour exploration of the citadel before boarding a tourist bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Departing on the train at either 14:55 or 15:20 p.m., our AB team awaits at the station to accompany you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, with an expected return around 7:00 p.m. For those trekking Huayna Picchu Mountain, arrangements for lunch and duffle bag pickup are made with our guide before taking the train.

A Perfect Trip with AB Expeditions - AB Expeditions were absolutely incredible. We chose this company because we wanted a smaller group experience of the Inca Trail, compared to other companies who we saw had very large groups. We were actually lucky enough to be the only people in our group, meaning we had the guide all to ourselves and could trek at our own pace. We were picked up and dropped off at our hostel, and all travel to the trail and back to Cusco was organised for us. They also stored our luggage for us in their office, and dropped it off at our hostel when we arrived back. Our guide, Ricardo was fantastic at showing us all the best viewpoints along the trail and taking loads of photos. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of the area, as well as the local wildlife and flora and he could answer any questions we had. Our chef, Adriel cooked us huge, delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinners The meals gave us an insight into Peruvian cuisine. He provided snacks for the day as well, meaning we were never hungry! He also catered to my nut allergy and I felt in safe hands. Our porters Pio ,Juvenal ,Esteban, Guillermo and Octavio were all fantastic. They were all so friendly and helpful, carrying our duffel bags as well as helping us with anything we needed. The communication from AB Expeditions was very good, with them answering any emails promptly. I cannot recommend AB expeditions enough!!

Great Inca Trail experience made better by a great AB Expeditions Team - The company, pros: - Communication before the trip was very good. - Helpful list of things to bring sent via email long before the trip giving time to buy whatever I was lacking. - Prep meeting evening before leaving was very useful and Joyce gave a lot of tips. - The equipment that the porters had (boots, jackets etc) for their own use seemed to be one of the best on the trail and the porters looked like they were well looked after. Good to see as some of the porters from other companies had terrible footwear and were clearly overloaded! The company, cons: $20 to rent trekking poles seems excessive. It was not communicated until the prep meeting that the additional items we paid for (mattress & sleeping bag) would be taken out of our 7kg allowance (minor issue but useful to know) The Chef / Food: (Narcizo) The standard of food was restaurant worthy and we were always full with plenty of food being served for breakfast lunch, optional tea time and dinner! How such tasty food was make on a 2 burner gas stove is a marvel and a credit to Narcizo! The porters: (Luis and team) The porters were absolutely heroic in their efforts throughout the whole trip, setting up camp, breaking down camp and passing us on the trail (fully laden with all the gear) to set up the next post was impressive to say the least! Not only did they work hard but they were friendly and courteous at all times, I just wish my Spanish was good enough to have a proper conversation with them to learn more about their culture! The Guide: (Joyce) Joyce was a fountain of information and was crucial to making our trip enjoyable! Using our pacing he was able to tell us accurate timings to the next break spot which was helpful, especially for my father who struggled in sections. Joyce’s knowledge about the Inca’s was impressive and it was clear to see that he enjoys his work having read plenty about the history and being able to reference various sources for information while not embellishing what wasn’t known due to records being destroyed. The evening conversations over dinner also kept us entertained and learning about the local history and culture opened our eyes to so many things and left me wishing we had more time to explore everything Joyce told us about! To summarise, I cannot recommend AB Expeditions enough and would definitely use them again for any trips!

Inka Trail 4 Days with Ricardo - I did the 4 Days Inka Trail in April 2024 with a friend. The group consisted of 5 hikers in total which was a perfect size. Our Guide Ricardo was very friendly, patient, knowledgable and made this trek an unforgettable experience. Besides that he is an exzcellent photograph! The cook Nica prepared delicous and fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks and tea. We had everything that we could possibly need. The porters Alfredo, Juan, Guillermo, Basilio, Antonin, Esteban, Luis, Pio & Gerardo did an astonishing job and took care of our equipment perfectly. All in all it was a wonderful experience that we would 100% recommend.

Great Experience - We had a great time on this trek! All the staff are very friendly and helpful! Our guide Ricardo made sure everything ran like clockwork and any questions we had were always answered in detail. The food was genuinely amazing thanks to our chef Nica, we never went hungry and I can’t believe what he can cook in a tent! And after a long day of hiking we can’t thank our porters enough for looking after us with hot water, getting our tents ready and of course carrying our bags! Thank you to, Alfredo, Juan , Guillermo, Basilio, Antolin, Esteban, Luis, Pío and head porter Gerardo for their professionalism. We would definitely recommend AB for this once in a life time adventure!!

Unforgettable Inca trail experience - An unforgettable experience with AB experiences. Everything during our 4 day Inca trek to Matchu Pitchu ran so smoothly and professionally. Our guide Ricardo was extremely welcoming, supportive and knowledgeable. The food during the trip prepared by Nica was 5 star restaurant quality and there was plenty to go around. The porters, lead by Gerardo, were extremely professional, thoughtful and friendly. It felt like we were a big family during the 4 days. Would not hesitate in recommending AB expeditions and our team on 18th April in particular.

The best of the best. Made a once in lifetime experience unforgettable. This is a first class operation. - Exceeded all my expectations and totally blew me away. This was the adventure of a lifetime, and it couldn’t have been without the incredible AB Expeditions. If you are thinking of booking a 4 day Inca Trail, I highly, highly recommend AB Expeditions. We were in a group with 6 other people for a total of 8. This made a huge difference compared to most other Inca Trail operators who were underway with up to 20 or so participants. The food was amazing. If you’re thinking you may lose weight on this tour, think again. It’s unbelievable what the chef Adriel whipped up for every meal. Breakfast was delicious. Lunch and dinner were spectacular and the presentation a form of art. It is still a mystery to me, how he managed to cook everything. Of course he was helped by Enrique and the charming Isaias was always present bringing out food and tending to all our needs. The tents were top notch and even though it poured nonstop one afternoon, the porters pitched our tents and we settled in to dry tents. The porters are unbelievable, carrying some of our belongings and all the necessary camping equipment. Although leaving after us, always at our camping place before we arrived, with tents pitched and meals waiting. Thanks to each and every porter, who I need to name as they’re worth all their weight in Inca gold. They were so friendly and did an amazing job. So thanks to Mario, Adriel, Juan, Enrique, Isaias, William, Florentino, Cirilo, Orlando, Pio, Lorenzo, Facundo, Avelino and Cosme. The icing on the cake, however, was our tour guide Jacob. Jacob was so personable and knowledgeable. He is a true superstar. It was so great being in a small group and being able to share so much time with him, and have take the time to point out all the different sights upon the way. We had a lot of laughs with him and he really took care of everyone and ensured we got the most out of this adventure. A huge thank you Jacob, you are the best!!!! If you're looking to book an Inca Trail Expedition, then you'd be foolish to book with another company. We did two tours with AB Expeditions and both were amazing.

Incredible Experience with Robinzon, Santos, and team - What an awesome trip! AB Expeditions is a great company. They are well organized and were very quick to respond to all our queries. I love that they are locally owned and operated and outfit their team with high quality equipment and have high quality equipment for their guests as well. I also love that they take small groups. We were only a group of 2 people and they didn’t cancel or try to reschedule us. And we had such an amazing experience as a small group. Our guide Robinzon was incredibly knowledgable about all of the plant and animal species in the area and pointed them all out for us as we walked. He also knew all about the history and shared it with us, along with sharing the culture. Not just a great hike with incredible views, but also a rich experience filled with so many great stories. Our guide deserves a raise! And the food was incredible as well. Santos was an awesome cook. He really went above and beyond. The rest of his porter team were so kind and extremely hard working. Huge kudos to them for hauling all of the stuff required to make the experience so enjoyable. It was hard to believe we were even camping with how luxurious it all was. Huge thanks to AB Expeditions, Robinzon, Santos, and team!

Exceeded all my expectations - What an amazing team and trip. I want to thank ll of Mario team the chance to experience the Inca trail in such a remarkable way. The porters team, guide and cook helped us learn so much about their culture and make the experience comfortable. The trail is somewhat challenging but the guide really adapts to your pace and makes sure you are progressing at a good and comfortable pace. The cook also provided AMAZING food that you would expect in a high-level resturant. What a team, what a view and possibly life changing experience. Highly recommended!
