Highlights
  • The Cathedral of Assumption - Your private guide and driver will pick you up at your Prague location. After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes of a comfortable drive, you’ll begin your exploration of Kutna Hora. Your first stop is the Cathedral of Assumption, the first cathedral in Czechia, featuring a nearly one-meter-high golden monstrance from the 14th century of immeasurable value. Hear the legend of how it survived all the wars up to the present day. (Open daily except from November to February, during which it is closed on Mondays.)
  • The Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary - Descend into the crypt to marvel at the world-famous Ossuary, adorned with the bones of 40,000 victims of wars and plague, arranged in pyramids, coat of arms, chandeliers, and more. (Open daily except from November to February, during which it is closed on Mondays.)
  • St Barbara’s Cathedral - St. Barbara’s Cathedral was intended to rival the largest church in Prague, St. Vitus in Prague Castle. Assess how well the medieval masters achieved this goal.
  • Historicke Centrum Kutne Hory - In medieval times, the glory of Kutna Hora rivaled that of Prague due to its silver mines and mints. Residents of this Bohemian silver hub emulated Prague by inviting the same architects to construct the Cathedral of St. Barbara, a second “Charles Bridge,” the Italian Court (Silver Mint), and more.

Enjoy an authentic Bohemian lunch at a local restaurant after your walk through the city center.

  • Italian Court - Learn about the production of silver coins and view examples (optional interior tour not included; open daily except from November to February, during which it is closed on Mondays). After visiting the Italian Court, you’ll be driven back to Prague (1 hour and 15 minutes) and provided with all the recommendations and insider tips you desire. You can also be dropped off anywhere in Prague.

FANTASTIC! If you only take one tour, take this one! - We chose this tour based on the stellar reviews, and we absolutely made the best decision! Michal is a professional in every sense of the word. We had great communication leading up to the tour, and he picked us up right on time in front of our accommodations. It's clear he is an expert in the areas we visited, and he gave us lots of information that we would never have gotten simply by reading a book or trying to do a tour by ourselves. He made the tour interesting, informative, and often humorous. The lunch was fantastic as well, and it was such an easy trip up and back, with great conversation. We would never have gotten this experience with one of the larger tour groups. Definitely book this tour if you are going to Kutna Hora!

Revealing the hidden symbols and secrets of Kutna Hora - We booked a tour with Michal through Real Prague Tours (not to be confused with similar-sounding companies!) and had an excellent day visiting Kutna Hora. Starting at the serenely beautiful Cathedral of Assumption of Our Lady and John the Baptist, we enjoyed Michal’s vivid and detailed knowledge of the religious significance of each painting and relic. What really made it special for us was Michal’s clear passion for history, and how he was able to make the names of the past - Ludmila, Wenceslas, Hus - come to life as real people whose power and religion had shaped the landscape. We moved on the the famous ossuary, and Michal patiently explained the story behind each element. From the towers in each corner, densely layered with bones and skulls, to the elaborate and quite absurd chandelier, and the osseous coat of arms with a bony carved crow pecking the eyes of a skull. St Barbara’s Church, a very short drive from the ossuary, was a great contrast to the pure lines of the Cathedral - it’s high-Baroque and completely over the top, and Michal guides us round stories shown in the frescos and (newish) windows. Without his knowledge, we wouldn’t have been able to appreciate what we were seeing, as it would have been a sensory overload of black and gold. Through it all, Michal wove in stories about the significance of silver mining to the area, which helped us understand why Kutna Hora has had such a dramatic history. After a local lunch at a lovely restaurant (top-notch beef, dumplings and cranberries though plenty of other options) we ambled down the hill to get a panoramic view of the town, then a comfortable journey back to the city. We highly recommend Michal and this tour - enthusiastic, professional and deeply knowledgeable, you’ll have a wonderful time.

Great tour and guide! - We used Michael's services three times when we visited because he was our favorite guide. He was knowledgable, easy to work with, and went the extra mile for his customers. We always felt a little bit spoiled when we were with him. The trip to Kutna Hora was especially interesting because of it's unique history and charming town. It was one of our most memorable tours, and I would highly recommend it.

Great Tour and Guide - The visit to Kutna Hora is a great day trip from Prague, about an hour each way. The cathedrals are impressive and the Bone Church is a very unique place you shouldn’t miss if you’re in Prague. Michal is an excellent, very knowledgeable guide and provided historical context, highlighted the most important features and answered any questions we had. The personal attention, nice comfortable vehicle and great conversation on the journey is well worth the additional cost versus a group tour. The lunch and treat were great and Michal gave us lots of recommendations for the rest of our stay in Prague. It was a great trip and likely the highlight of our visit. Highly recommended!
