Highlights
  • Pilsner Urquell Brewery - Your private guide and driver will pick you up at your Prague location. After about 1.5 hours of a comfortable drive, you’ll arrive in Pilsen, the beer-brewing capital of the world since the 19th century and the European Capital of Culture in 2015. Beer enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the chance to join a group tour of the Pilsner Urquell brewery (admission included), where the pilsner type of beer originated. Here, you can taste the locally dubbed “liquid bread” straight from oak barrels (morning pick-up times at 8:30 am and 9 am apply only from July to September due to the brewery tour schedule). Afterward, enjoy a traditional Bohemian lunch at the oldest local beerhouse.
  • 4, nám. Republiky 3 - After the brewery visit, we’ll explore the historical center. You’ll see the world’s 5th largest synagogue (interiors closed since early 2020 for reconstruction; alternatively, you can visit the Old Synagogue with a memorial for victims—closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays, admission not included), the local university, the 16th-century Renaissance city hall, and the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew with the highest church tower in Czechia (102 m). If interested, there’s an option to explore the labyrinth of passages, cellars, and wells built under the city in the 14th century. The total length of these passages exceeds seventeen kilometers, making it one of the largest historical underground systems in Central Europe (optional, not included).
  • Church Tower - The highest church tower in Czechia (102 m) offers a beautiful view of the entire city.
  • Techmania Science Center - (Optional, for kids) The day’s program in Pilsen can also be tailored for children. The local Techmania Science Center offers learning through play, the only 3D observatory in Czechia, a dinopark, a museum of ghosts and fairy tales, and a zoo, all great places for fun for kids and their companions (admission not included).

Fun and unique experience! - Great tour! Michal is an excellent guide. After picking us up at our hotel in Prague, the scenic drive to Pilsen through the Czech countryside flew by as Michal engaged us in conversation. His knowledge of history and culture is extensive. We visited the historic small town of Pilsen including a beautiful church. Afterward, Michal dropped us off at Pilsner Urquell Brewery for a guided tour. The facilities are immense and the tour is well worth the visit just to see the magnitude of their bottling operation. The history of Pilsner beer was interesting and underground tunnels were incredible. Of course the best part was the tasting directly from an aged barrel!!! Michal was waiting for us at the end of the tour. We had time to browse the gift shop before having lunch. We could have ate at the brewery but Michal suggested an alternative so we dined at a restaurant in town where locals frequent & the first place to serve Pilsner Urquell. Food was excellent. This was a great way to end our 10 day vacation cruising the Danube River and 3 days in Prague. Michal offers many different city tours of Prague and other sites such as Cesky Krumlov and Kutna Hora. I highly recommend Michal as your personal guide while visiting Prague and the Czech Republic. You won’t be disappointed!

Great guide - Michal is the best guide you could ever find. He was very attentive and knowledgeable of Pilzen history and attractions. We had wonderful Czech lunch in a historical Cafe. Michal kept us engaged in conversation for the entire trip. I would highly recommend this tour.

A day that was worth it. - It's worth spending a day on your trip, departing from Prague. The city is small. By making a plan (find out the times and duration of the tours), you can get to know the city, visit the basements of Pilsen and take a guided tour at the Urquell brewery. We had lunch at Urquell's own restaurant, which is excellent. Food for all tastes at a fair price. The train ticket is valid for 24 hours.

Michal provided a great tour of Pilsen followed by brewery - Michal made this trip. We corresponded prior to leaving the states and set up a customized trip to Pilsen and a tour of Pilsner Urquell Brewery. Pick up and drop off at our AirBandB. The drive to Pilsen Michal explained historical facts and provided a "mini tour" during the drive. We spent some wonderful time in Pilsen Square and learned the history and meaning behind many of the structures. Again, Michal is very knowledgeable and provided us with context you could never get from a written tour guide. The weather cooperated and we made the walk up the church steeple for a wonderful view of Pilsen. Lots of stairs with some on a good incline as advertised. Then to a local microbrewery for lunch. No hassles with parking at Pilsner Urquell and a short walk to meet the tour guide from Pilsner Urquell. Good overview of their brewing process, but was made for the mass audiences. HIghlited by a taste of unfiltered beer in the cellar. Then a ride back to Prague. Michal again providing interesting conversation and details ( playing Modaul's symphony as we are traveling by the river) We did a private walking tour with Michal 2 days prior and again highly recommend. Provides the history and context of Prague and he is extremely knowledgeable.

Great day trip! - We had a great day trip to Pilsen City! Our guide Michal was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The ride to Pilsen was nice and once there we had a tour of the city and visited a beautiful church. Michal knew a lot of history, which was very interesting for us. After lunch (included as advertised) we went to Pilsner for the Brewery tour. At the end of the brewery tour, Michal was waiting for us and we returned to Prague. All around a great day! Thank you!

Fantastic day! - This is such a great day trip; Pilsen is a beautiful city! The brewery tour is fun and a good break from museums & castles in Prague. Michal has a passion for history and does a great job of explaining Pilsen’s past, culture, art, politics, food...he’s brilliant! He’s easy to talk to so the day seemed more like a conversation with a new friend than a history lesson. The ease of the trip made it so pleasurable: being picked up at our AirBnB, lunch & entrance fees included, a bottle of water in the car, having someone with you who speaks fluent English and Czech! The personal service made it an excellent value for the money - Such a great day!

THIS is the tour you want to take to Plzen - I booked this tour knowing my husband was really looking forward to the tour of the Pilsner Urquell brewery as a highlight of our Czech trip. Michal did not disappoint. He was an excellent communicator in the lead up to the trip, making sure the day would run exactly as we wanted. He was thoughtful when it came to accomodating our 6-year old son and made sure the visit to Plzen was just as interesting for him as it was for us. Michal arranged everything for our brewery tour, including lunch, and was always ready with interesting information about the town and Czech generally, and offered additional insider tips for the rest of our stay in Prague. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you Michal!
