Learning about the Templars ... - As a history buff, the Templars have long been a fascinating subject for me. Visiting Almourol and Tomar was absolutely captivating. Our guide had an incredibly deep knowledge of Templar history and Portuguese history generally. And at the same time was incredibly gracious. Thank you!

Recommended Day Trip of History - This is a wonderful day trip. Tomar, Tomar Castle and Convento de Cristo, and the surrounding area of Portugal, are beautiful, and Almourol Castle is very interesting as well. Our tour guide, Joao, did a fantastic job. Even though we could not sail over to Almourol Castle due to the high water level and fast-flowing river, Joao had a backup plan to go to a historic church in Tomar where the headstones of former Templars are located. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

More Than You'd Expect - The Almourol Castle is interesting and is a great photo op, but we were more surprised by the Convent of Christ in Tomar, which was absolutely huge and surprising how lavishly it was decorated - for a monastery. Great tour. Be prepared to walk a lot

Geat trip! - Enjoyed this trip immensely. The guides were very informative and friendly. We had ample time at each site to explore and I enjoyed the free time to walk around the town and eat lunch. Would highly recommend for anyone interested in the Templars or history in general.

Knight's Templar castle - a step back in time - Great tour of Tomar and Almourol and history of the Knight's Templar. The watchtower in Almourol takes a short boat ride to the entrance (lots of steps but well worth the climb.) The Knight's Templar castle and convent next to it was very interesting and the dome area very beautiful. We had time to walk around the town of Tomar and it's beautiful park and had a wonderful lunch at restaurante Beira rio on Rua Alexandre Herculano. Our tour guide Joao (John) was very knowledgeable about the area. Joao even took us to the aqueduct built in the 17th Century that fed water to the castle and surrounding farmland. You can go up into one section of the aqueduct which was very interesting. The day is a long because of the travel time from Lisbon to Tomar but worth the time.

Avoid this tour unless/until the transportation is upgraded - The tour vehicle was absolutely terrible and literally made the trip torture for the travelers. The van was ill equipped, very noisy...so much so that only the front seat passenger could hear a work of our guides description. It was a hot and humid day and the AC barely cooled the front seat. Wind noise from the sliding windows added to passenger discomfort. Seating was uncomfortable at best and visibility poor. For an all day excursion, this was inexcusable. While, the tour offered at hotel pick up, I would have preferred pick up at a central location. Spending 2 hours driving around the city during peak traffic for pick up and drop off was exhausting and unwelcome. Our guide was very kind and instructive, however no-one could hear him. The subject matter was fantastic.

The guide sucked; sites were cool. - The knights templar sites were really cool. However, our guide didn’t seem to know anything about the topic so I didn’t learn anything I didn’t know already. He asked us to ask questions at the beginning but he did not teach us anything throughout the day. He just walked us through the sites. And when someone did ask a question, he would google the answer. Not the experience I paid for. I learned a couple things from 2 of the other guests on the tour. I would have liked this tour so much better if the guide was confident in the history of this topic. Also, it was really hot that day and the vehicle had no working air conditioning, the seats were uncomfortable and a window was busted and made it loud and annoying for the person sitting next to it. The guide also just talked to the person in the front seat and not the rest of us when we were on the long drives. The vehicle also needs a speaker so everyone can hear the guide.
