Highlights

Marrakech - The High Atlas and Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate Film Studios

Ouarzazate - Fes trip Desert’s driver will pick you up at your hotel or riad at 7 am for the fabulous journey up into the High Atlas Mountains. Your journey begins with a breathtaking drive up in between the peaks and then through the astounding Tizi n’tichka Pass, over two and a quarter kilometres above sea-level, along twisting, turning mountain roads, dotted with picturesque Berber mountain villages and crystal clear waterfalls, until you arrive at the area around Ouarzazate where you can take a pleasant stroll to examine the traditional Moroccan architecture that comprises the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah and it’s impressive walls. This central area of the country is vibrant and exciting and surely one of the most romantic regions in Morocco, huddled between fertile green river valleys with their extensive palmeries and burnished mud-brick houses burning under the blazing Moroccan sun in dazzling colours beneath an azure sky. After the Kasbah, explore the film sets and studios of Ouarzazate, Africa’s Hollywood whose astonishing topography and scenery have lured some of the world’s leading film-makers and directors to make use of the landscape. These are the largest and most famous film studios in all of the African continent. You may visit the studio museum where you get to see props and other items of interest from films such as Gladiator, The Mummy and Indiana Jones as well as parts of the popular TV series Game of Thrones. Spend the night in comfort at an hotel in Ouarzazate.

Great experience with friends! - We did the one night - two days tour in Merzouga from Fes. Great tour, good experience, nice people and all logistics very well arranged. Special mention for our driver Houcin, who was very very kind and helpful all the time on the two ways trip.

Morocco desert trip - Without doubt one of the favourite city in MOROCCO Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed , our names were mentioned on the board and we felt welcomed and with such a friendly atmosphere we had a fantastic start! The guide and tour was extremely good, very flexible (appreciate this!) and for that he deserves a special thanks. We had two great days there, which obviously also added up to the experience.

carzy - We were left with a good impression after a first trip to the country a few years ago. But our following stays have raised the bar even higher and allowed Morocco to slip into one of our favorite countries. Despite some stubborn prejudices, the country is totally safe it is a beautiful country

Terrible organisation, the only positive note being the wonderful places and our fantastic and very kind driver Hassan - we purchased, through Viator, the “3-day / 2-night luxury desert tour from Marrakech to Fes”, 300 euros each (in total 600 euros for two people). We had booked the tour departing from Marrakech on April 30th and arriving in Fes on May 2nd; 3 days before our departure (27 April 2024) this Sami (with whom we spoke on the phone only because we called the number indicated on Viator, otherwise we would never have had any information) asked us to move the departure from Marrakech from the 30th April to May 1st, i.e. one day later than the scheduled date, (with all the difficulties in booking accommodation for an extra night in Marrakech, in full season, just two days in advance, and above all without having been able to receive a refund of the night already paid in Fes on May 2nd). On May 1st, we started our tour with a very good guide/driver (the only real positive note of the trip) but both the places where we stayed overnight and the "dinners" were definitely below any type of expectation. Having paid 600 euros for two nights, I ask you if this is normal: 1) sleep the first night, in accommodation not included in the program, in a tavern (Riad des Vieilles Charrues, Boumalne, Dades), whose average double rooms (average booking price in May 2024) cost 40-50 euros, in a room without even the keys to the door, in a situation which, even considering the fact of sleeping on the edge of the desert, did not appear to have decent hygienic conditions in the slightest, with dinner included, consisting of a potato, three green beans and a piece of chicken; 2) sleep the second night in a tent that is anything but luxurious, with a bed made of stone and wood, among animals and spiders (one of which was killed by one of the kind boys of the camp), without hot water, without any of hygienic-sanitary conditions, without electricity (which we had in spurts) and with an accompanying dinner consisting of: a fruit salad, a small bowl of soup without salt and a tajine which we divided into 4. I would like to add that the conditions were so different from what we expected, that our driver, a very kind person who probably had nothing to do with all these mix-ups, realized the situation and offered us, out of his own pocket, a bottle of wine that we shared during the night in the desert. In support of this organizational mix-up, we were offered, as "compensation", in addition to the 30 euros in cash that were given to us, a free excursion to Chefchaouen on Saturday 4 May departing from Fes. This trip, which began with a pick-up in Fez, scheduled for 8 am on 4 May 2024 (in reality it started at 9 am after an hour of waiting without even the possibility of having breakfast), ended at 1.30 pm in Chefchaouen, where we were forced to get off the bus (we were about 50 people, after more than 5 hours of travel) due to engine failure. According to the guide, we would have had time to visit Chefchaouen, but for the return to Fes, "it would have been more prudent to return by our own means" (the quotation marks strictly represent the words referred to us); I remember that the return from Chefchaoeun to Fez requires about 4 hours of travel by car. For these reasons, we tried in vain to request both the guide and the telephone from the local operator (Sami) for a replacement vehicle; this request was never followed up, also because "this Sami", after repeated attempts to contact on the telephone, hung up on every phone call. The day ended with a return to Fes with a private taxi paid directly by us.
