A journey to the Western part of Terceira offers a deeper understanding of its historical evolution. Our adventure commences with a breathtaking view from the Sierra Cume lookout, where we can appreciate a unique landscape of artistically divided farmlands resembling a real-life patchwork. Journeying to the other edge of the island, we might get a glimpse of the local bulls, immensely significant to Terceira’s culture, roaming in their natural habitat. Reaching the Northern Coast, we learn about the ocean’s and volcanoes’ contribution to the fascinating geographical formations along the coastline. There’s ample time in the morning to roam through Praia da Vitória, the island’s second largest city, before we break for lunch at a local restaurant. We then ascend the Facho Lookout to take in the city’s entire panorama, before heading to the bathing area at Porto Martins pools. On the way to Angra, we still have a moment to enjoy the traditional Espírito Santo chapels, deeply intertwined with the archipelago’s history.
