NEGOMBO - SIGIRIYA
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock, is a world heritage site chosen by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace atop this rock and adorned its sides with colorful frescoes, similar to those in the Ajanta caves in India. The mirror wall features verses from as early as the 8th century, written by people on various subjects such as love, irony, and personal experiences.
Village Tour Sri Lanka & Village Safari - In Habarana, you can enjoy a traditional bullock cart ride through lush green paddy fields to a rural village. Here, you’ll be served tea and “jaggery” along with a lunch prepared in authentic Sri Lankan style. SIGIRIYA
Minneriya National Park - Located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, after being declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The park was established to protect the catchment of the Minneriya tank and the surrounding wildlife. The tank, built by King Mahasen in the third century AD, holds historical significance.
Pidurangala Rock - Pidurangala is a massive rock formation a few kilometers north of Sigiriya. It shares a history closely linked to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Though less grand and more challenging to climb, it is often overlooked by tourists. Formed by volcanic activity, Pidurangala appears larger than Sigiriya but has a steeply sloped upper surface, making it unsuitable for large-scale construction. The surrounding rocky outcrops offer a glimpse of what the area around Sigiriya might have looked like before its transformation into a royal citadel.
SIGIRIYA – DAMBULLA - KANDY
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, it houses the relic of the Buddha’s tooth. The relic has historically played a significant role in local politics, as it is believed that whoever holds the relic governs the country. Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, is a World Heritage Site primarily because of this temple.
Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - Sri Lanka, rich in culture and tradition, offers a vibrant and unique show of traditional dances through the Kandy cultural show. The highlight is the fire-walking act, where performers walk barefoot across a fire pit covered with red-hot charcoal, emerging unharmed at the other end.
Dambulla Royal Cave Temple - The Rock Temple of Dambulla, also known as Dambulla Golden Temple, is located about forty-seven miles northwest of Kandy. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 meters above the surrounding plains, and the area contains over 80 documented caves. Major attractions are spread across five caves, featuring statues and paintings.
KANDY – KITULGALA - BENTOTA
Royal Botanical Gardens - As Sri Lanka’s largest garden, the 147-acre (60-hectare) Peradeniya Gardens require ample time to explore. The gardens feature around 4,000 different plant species, with the 10,000 or so trees being the main attraction. These mature, lofty giants include many tropical timber trees and showcase Sri Lanka’s flora along with representative species from around the tropical world.
Geragama Tea Factory - As one of the world’s top tea producers, Sri Lanka offers tours of tea estates like the Geragama Tea Factory. Visitors can see the tea processing machines and purchase tea on-site. The estate spans many hectares, appearing boundless from one end. Tourists can walk through the estates, observe the tea manufacturing process from plucking to packaging, and buy freshly packaged tea in various variants.
Adventure LK white water rafting kitulgala - Experience white water rafting on the scenic Kelani River, navigating 5 major rapids and 4 minor rapids. BENTOTA – GALLE - BENTOTA
Galle Fort - Located on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, the Bay of Galle was first built by the Portuguese in 1588 and extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards. Galle’s history dates back to Ptolemy’s world map of 125–150 AD, when it was a bustling port trading with Greece, Arab countries, China, and others. It is mentioned as a “port of call of the Levant” in the cosmography of Cosmas Indicopleustes.
Unawatuna Beach - Unawatuna is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous areas, particularly popular for its beautiful southern beaches. Just an hour’s ride from Colombo, Unawatuna is an ideal spot for a few days’ stay. The small town offers great shopping, guesthouses, trendy restaurants, and various activities and sightseeing opportunities.
Madu River - Enjoy a magical speed-boat ride along the Madu River, a wetland estuary covering 900 hectares, with 770 hectares of water and 64 islands. The boat ride offers a closer look at this complex wetland ecosystem, a world heritage site protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and one of the last wetlands in Sri Lanka with a pristine mangrove forest.
Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project - The Turtle Care Centre at Kosgoda beach is one of 18 turtle hatcheries along Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Established in 1981, the center is located in the South Western village of Kosgoda and is popular for hosting all five species of turtles that visit Sri Lanka. Unlike many other hatcheries on the island, Kosgoda’s beaches host all species of turtles.
BENTOTA - COLOMBO - AIRPORT
Arcade Independence Square - This monument marks the location where the formal ceremony for Sri Lanka’s self-rule began, with the opening of the first parliament by HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, on February 4, 1948. A statue of the first prime minister, Rt. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake, known as “The Father of the Nation,” stands at the head of the monument. Most annual National Independence Day celebrations are held here.
Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall - Located in Colombo, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall is a convention center built between 1970 and 1973. It was a gift from the People’s Republic of China in memory of Prime Minister Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike.
Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple - Gangaramaya Temple is one of Colombo’s most important temples, blending modern architecture with cultural essence. The temple is known for housing a young elephant named Ganga, who is chained at the back, unable to walk, and often seen swaying sideways. Tourists have also reported seeing her cry.
