Highlights
  • Senso-ji Temple - Also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, Sensoji Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in Asakusa. It stands as one of Tokyo’s most vibrant and frequented temples, offering a glimpse into the Edo period’s ambiance. Sensōji Temple played a pivotal role in transforming the small village of Asakusa into a thriving town. Ieyasu, the Tokugawa shogun who established Edo (modern-day Tokyo) as Japan’s de facto capital in the early 1600s, found significant symbolism in Sensōji. As the most formidable warlord of his era, he sought divine support from gods and Buddhas. Ancient geomancy suggested that potential invaders would approach from the northeast or southwest, known as the front and rear “demon gates.” Sensōji Temple guarded the northeast gate, while Zojoji Temple in Shiba, near Tokyo Tower, protected the southwest. Ieyasu designated both as his family temples.
  • The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace (Edo Castle Ruin) - Located within the inner royal residence area, the East Gardens feature seasonal blooms and traditional Japanese gardens, encircled by original moats, walls, and entrance gates. These expansive landscaped gardens are part of the palace grounds, initially constructed in 1888, and include remnants of Edo Castle.
  • Tokyo Skytree - Dominating the city’s skyline, TOKYO SKYTREE has surpassed Tokyo Tower as the contemporary emblem of the capital. A visit offers sweeping views of the city and beyond; on clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji on the horizon. The TOKYO SKYTREE area is more than just the tower; it is surrounded by the extensive shopping complex Tokyo Solamachi, the nostalgic shopping streets of Shitamachi Ninjo Kirakira Tachibana Shotengai, and several intriguing and interactive museums.
  • Meiji Jingu Shrine - Meiji Jingu Shrine, arguably Tokyo’s most renowned Shinto shrine, has served as a cultural icon for Japan for nearly a century.
  • Tsukiji Fish Market - Tsukiji Market in Tokyo is one of the premier locations to sample exceptional Japanese street food.
  • Takeshita Street - Takeshita Street, Harajuku’s most bustling fashion avenue, is the birthplace of Japanese kawaii culture and the epicenter for disseminating Tokyo’s pop culture globally.
  • Shibuya Crossing - Renowned as the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world, the Shibuya Scramble is a must-see attraction for most visitors to Tokyo.

I feel cheated because... - I feel cheated because the trip clearly mentioned that admission to SkyTree was included but the driver/guide refused to honour that and said it was chargeable. After paying so much for the trip this was not we hoped. You can check what you mention in your trip schedule. You should refund the SkyTree tickets cost. Also the driver cum guide came more than an hour late and had very little idea about history and info of Tokyo which you ideally expect from a guide.

Bad tour guides - This was one of the worst tours I have ever taken. The driver took me to locations that were late in the day were I couldn't see the attraction and 30 mins befor closing of the palace which had a huge line. I didn't not go to either. The car smelled real bad. He was not very knowledgeable about the attractions. Didn't know what the areas were in the city where we were. Used google maps to get around and at times slowed to real slow to read the map. He had very bad breath and told me he couldn't brush his teeth because of Ramadan. It was not worth the money and I'm seriously considering to not book with Viator again. They should use qualified tour guides. I spent $1,200 and it was a total waste of money.

Not the professional service you normally experience in Japan - Car smelled so bad (cigarette smell), my family and I got out immediately. Also, the driver’s English was poor for someone charging 87k yen for an English speaking driver. Had to walk away from the car unfortunately and get back in to our hotel and figure out how to salvage the day on our own. I am demanding a full refund.

Good company, bad contracted guide - I have always had positive experiences with Viator in the past so I felt confident using them for our Tokyo adventure! It started when our tour guide changed the time of pickup at 10:50 pm the night before (after I was asleep), from 8 am to 9 am. But no big deal, after calling support, Viator explained the change. When the guide arrived, the vehicle was very dirty. There was Valentine’s Day confetti all over the floor and the seats were stained. Our guide Muhammad showed up without an itinerary and asked US where we were going. I showed him the itinerary and he proceeded to go. There was no conversation and no “guided tour. He simply did not speak and drove to the first destination. When we arrived, he circled around the East gardens twice and proceeded to leave because “there was nowhere to park.” When we asked to be let out, he told us he would wait while we went into the gardens. This was not what we signed up for! We wanted a guide, not a taxi service! We called Viator for a refund immediately and they extended it. I have used Viator many times before and never had an issue.
