A must do experience when visiting Montevideo! - Miguel arrived right on time and we had a great drive to the wine country leaning more about Uruguay. At Castillo Viejo we were met my Raquel who gave us an in-depth history of wine making in Uruguay as well as the history of the bodega. She is extremely knowledgeable and was patient in answering all of our questions. Next we proceeded to the amazing cellar where we tasted 4 wines, with very generous pours and a gourmet lunch. Along the way we met family members who own Castillo Viejo and we were warmly welcomed by them. Overall a great experience, very relaxing and most importantly delicious food and wine. I highly recommend the experience.

Great day in Montevideo - We're so happy we did this tour! I had been wanting to taste wine from the Tennat grape. We were greeted with a glass of wine when we arrived at Castillo Viejo. Then we walked among the vines and tasted different grape varieties. This was followed by a tour of the production facility. After that, we went to the wine cellar for a luncheon with about 5 different wine pairings. This is a fabulous excursion for any wine lover!

Go for the wine and food; stay for the hospitality of Bodegas Castillo Viejo. - Great day at Bodegas Castillo Viejo. The wine was delicious and the lunch amazing. Miguel was a wonderful guide for us. His knowledge is expansive in wine, wine making, and the wine making region which made the day even more amazing.

Incredible Day and Well Planned! - This was one of the best planned tours we’ve done anywhere in the world. The organizer, Ryan, reached out via WhatsApp weeks in advance and was kind enough to coordinate the best way to pick us up and provided tons of recommendations for Uruguay. Our guide on the day of the tour, Miguel, was incredibly kind and fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. We had a great time with him at an amazing winery with an experience just for us. Their food was also amazing. We can’t recommend this enough!

Wine Tasting and lots of laughs - My dad and I had a great day with Miguel in Montevideo at Casa Viejo. We were paired with two fun Brits and thoroughly enjoyed wine tasting, a 4 course lunch and lots of fun and laughter. Miguel is very engaging and went out of his way to make sure we all had a great day. I would love to come back and do another tour. Highly recommend.

Memorable introduction to Uruguay Wines - My husband and I took the Montevideo wine tour and luncheon as a shore excursion at the start of our cruise around South America. Our guide Miguel was informative and accommodating going above and beyond to make our tour memorable. Miguel drove us to Castillo Viejo winery where we were hosted by the wine maker. She gave us a personal tour of the working winery and surrounding grounds with Miguel serving as translator. We then were served a delicious meal with paired Castillo Viejo wines paired. We have done many wine tours and this tour was a fabulous introduction to Uruguay wines. Highly recommend.

Excellent introduction to Uruguay wines! - We are wine enthusiasts from California but didn’t know much about wines from Uruguay. So booking an independent shore excursion during our one-day cruise stop in Montevideo gave us just the introduction we needed. Miguel/Mike was our guide and driver. We were courteously asked in advance if we would mind if another woman joined us. Since we were only two, we were happy to oblige. Miguel’s family was a yeast supplier to the wine industry in Uruguay, so he seems to know everyone and could answer pretty much any question we had en route to the winery. His English is excellent and he helped translate when needed at the winery tour. The winemaker for the small, family run winery greeted us, provided some sample bottled aromas to experience, and gave us a tour of their production facility. As we have taken a lot of winery tours in the States, we were quite interested in how different some of the equipment is, especially the large cement fermenters. On the tour, employees were bottling and packing one of their wines. We were offered the chance to assist in bottling by putting on the foils, and we even were allowed to hand place a label on their most limited production wine. How fun! The wine-paired lunch was filling and good. We were surprised at how many different varietals they made for a small winery. It was our first time tasting Tannat dominant wines, as we have only had that as a small part of blends before. We purchased a bottle of Pinot Noir Rose to enjoy chilled on the ship since it’s the hot summer season right now. Since we only had one short day in port, we did not have the opportunity to walk around the city of Montevideo. So Miguel drove by some of the city highlights on the way back to the ship and we stopped to take a few pictures. All in all, the kind of excellent introduction to Uruguay wines we were looking for and a very enjoyable day.

Fabulous Tour of Uruguay's Wine Region - Terrific tour of Uruguay's up-and-coming wine region. As relatively knowledgeable wine enthusiasts we look for more than just the usual routine and our guide, Miguel, delivered just that. He shepherded us to a century old family winery crafting outstanding Cabernet Francs and Tannats while giving us an inciteful overview of the region. We enjoyed a lovely lunch with the winery owners and an interesting tour of the vines and facilities. My wife had read about Bouza Winery and Miguel graciously accommodated her wish to visit with a brief stop on our way back to Montevideo. You can tell when a guide truly enjoys his/her work and Miguel exuded a passion which made this a brilliant tour.
